Yeah Mouni's big break was Naagin. Drashti and Sanaya have had some pretty iconic shows. MJHT, Geet, IPK, Madhubala...their basically TV legends imo, A Listers of TV world. They had like two shows back to back that did exceptionally well. Star ONE really did wonders for them.

Its tough to beat the iconic status of those shows specially now since OTTs and web series have become such a big thing. Sanaya, Drashti and their contemporaries really got the best time on TV, male actors like Gurmeet, Vivian, KSG too.

PS: This is off topic but does your username have something to do with the Book, the Eminem song or you just like the bird? 😆

Yep it's not easy to beat sanaya and drashti popularity. There was time during jdj when drashti trended all over world with not one but two hastags.I was not aware of her popularity then although i liked her.Then i came to know MB is being telecasted in many countries along with her show Geet.Geet did wonders for her.Then MB also added to her popularity.Similarly i saw sanaya's shows being popular in Arab countries. We have some pretty iconic shows in India. I feel our youth college shows were great. It really retained the innocence of students. Dont get me wrong, I love teen drama shows of the West and there are quite a few I am watching for the first time now, but idk i feel those CW and Freeform shows show too much of kissing and sex; I dont think thats the only thing on High Schooler's minds in the West. And contrasting are the High School based shows on Disney, all innocent 😆

Channel V had good youth based shows. But it also shut down sadly.

Btw any idea on why everything that is deemed "high school stuff" in the West is considered "college level" in India? For egee would never have students having sex in high school shows on Indian tv; on the other hand, MJHT showed college students Samrat and Gunjan having sex.

I also found it weird that people like serials like YHM which is topping the chart in UK 😆

I have heard reasons of other people watching shows of other countries rather than their own as they find their's boring. Americans love Turkish shows as well and Korean ones too.

I watched Vampire Diaries which was so popular but found it nonsensical with all types of creatures and then wondered what's the difference between our Naagin and VD 😆

You can never know what people can like but I guess everyone likes a change rather than the shows they normally watch. Sanaya is quite famous in Turkey and her shows are being watched with subtitles too. But people liking SNS is something weird lol

I started enjoying PKYEK after the first 13 episodes. Otherwise I was comparing it to Twilight 🤣

MJHT was really good, just the 3 year leap sequence was very unrealistic and draggy. After Star ONE I never enjoyed any Indian youth show so I switched to American TV.

I never enjoyed Channel V shows. I tried to watch them and even MTV shows.

I guess the mature content depends on the age of the characters as well as the cultural differences.

Indians are very taboo when it comes to sex and kissing and stuff. The first time I saw it openly on TV was the MTV show Kaisi Ye Yaariyaan.

High schoolers are 17-18 (same as Junior College in India) and Indian makers like to show sex, if any, between 18+ adults on screen. Also to not promote premarital, underage and casual sex (which can be wrongly justified as love later). Makers ened to be responsible, specially during the generation of Nibba and Nibbis.

Also about Samrat and Gunjan, yes the makers showed them having sex but the idea of romance in MJHT was very different than TVD or PLL. It was one sex scene compared to the multiple in American shows. Lol sometimes I feel it was a trp gimmick. 😂

Indian shows focus on romance without too much PDA or touching, whereas West TV show sex as a way to show the characters loving each other.

When it comes to this notion, I prefer our TV. No way am I a prude but imo getting physical should be special and thats a bond u should share with someone special.
