Indian TV shows are popular in quite a Sri-Lanka, UAE, Turkey, Eastern Europe, China, Korea and quite a few countries.
I know some of them are dubbed in different languages like IPK,Madhubala,Geet Rangrasiya,,tumse hi aashique and most othem are loverstories.Recently i saw some fans of saath nibhana saathiya from different countries. I never liked that show but amused to see that people like that kind of show in abroad.Originally posted by: surajhere

It is the same reason many in India like Asian, Turkish and other country shows. It is good to see stories set in different cultures.

Nope, they are not regressive.
May be not for you but i see very less independent and strong woman character on Indian TV.It's more about women acting devi of sacrifices for her husband or lover or in some cases families.
