Nice story. Loving Prerna and Rishabh in this story. I hope Prerna understands Rishabh and forgives him. He needs love and understanding. She can argue with him and hash it out but hope she forgives him.

PART 10
“What are you doing” Prerna’s voice had broken the haze of alcohol and pain, she looked beautiful in white, her hair a little wet, face devoid of any makeup and rage clinging to her like second skin, just the way he liked her.
She moved towards him, carefully avoiding the broken glass and to his hand into hers, she held it so softly as if in an attempt to not hurt him anymore that he wondered if she was a figment of his imagination, a fantasy of his tormented brain, the punishment for all his sins. She couldn’t be here, not after today, her reaction today had cemented what he already knew, he didn’t blame her for that, she deserved every bit of light and happiness left in the world.
“Your stupidity needs to stop, what were you thinking breaking a glass in your hand” her eyes had flared with anger and Rishab realized with a start that she wasn’t a dream, the dammed jasmine scent of hers, her intoxicating gentle touch and the heat of her rage were all too real. “And how long have you been drinking” she was biting out every word she said.
She lead him toward the couch, bought the first aid box and began tending to his wounds not once looking at him.
“Why are you hear”
“Because I knew you would do something stupid, like always, please don’t tell me you don’t know about liver problems, because you do yet you insist on drinking that poison” she glared at the bottle.
“You’re beating around the bush Prerna, come to the bloody point” don’t give me hope.
“Well the point is, it was a terrible day for both of us I am pissed off, you’re drunk and hurt there is no way we can have an adult conversation right now, so let’s go to bed, sleep over this and talk like sensible people tomorrow after kuki has gone to school” she said her voice strong leaving no room for argument then suddenly hesitation seeped into her voice “I’ll be in kukis room for the night, I…I am not giving up,don’t drink anymore, please go to bed, it was a tough day for both of us” she said making way to kuki’s room but not before glancing back at him once.
The exhaustion on his features turned to determination, if Prerna was willing to be here after everything, if she was letting him explain himself, if she was trusting him, if she still cared then there was still a way to turn the tables, he wouldn’t let one mistake destroy everything, destroy his one chance of happiness.
*********************************************************************** The next morning wasn’t a pleasant one it was raining cats and dogs, dark clouds were the only thing in Kolkata’s sky and 9 o’clock in the morning looked like 7 of the evening, and the storm brewing outside was too similar to the one that was going to take over his house and Rishab couldn’t help chuckling, there was just something poetic about this disaster.
Prerna had been right, yesterday was a terrible day and as soon as he had laid on his bed, a fitful sleep had embraced him, there had been no nightmares but he didn’t feel rejuvenated in the slightest, there was no lie, no scheming no hidden card at his disposal this time and it made him feel vulnerable ,he hadn’t been unsure of anything in his life except for Prerna Sharma.
Breakfast had been a tense affair,Prerna hadn’t said a word to him, the air had been so tense that everyone from his staff to kukki had picked up on it, He knew his wife’s vices better than she herself did and the reason she had yet not barged into his study was because she was trying to gather her emotions. So he patiently waited.
Prerna looked at the rain, the atmosphere was dreary, the sky dark like a stormy night right out of one of kukki’s storybooks and prerna couldn’t help thinking, how our moods defined the way we see things if this storm would have come a week before she would have been happy, finding it romantic but now dread was the only thing filling her heart.
But she couldn’t let it hold her back, she had wasted three hours trying to get her emotions in check, and it wasn’t working so it was better if she just talked to him. Her legs automatically moved towards his study, and something dawned upon her, she knew this house, knew it so well that she could move in pitch dark and still know her way, she knew her husband well enough to know where he exactly was and the thought of not knowing this anymore scared her.
Pushing these thoughts at the back of her mind she opened the door and walked in only to find her husband standing near the window, his lack of reaction did nothing to fool her, even if his back was turned towards her, even if she had entered with utmost quietness, she knew he must have felt her presence.
“Rishab…. I” God this was tough she had so much to say, so much to ask then why couldn’t she bring herself to form one coherent sentence. She took a deep breath “Whatever happened, whatever you said to me after we decided to give us a chance, all those promises…you meant them right they weren’t a part of some scheme, whatever it is just don’t lie”she said her voice breaking at the end.
Please don’t break my heart, please, please. She silently prayed.
“I meant every bit of what I said, after the night in my office, before it I know I didn’t tell you the truth, but I haven’t ever lied to you, about anything, whatever this is, you weren’t meant to get hurt, I never wanted you hurt” he said with sincerity.
Please believe me prernaplease, please. He silently hoped
“You aren’t lying are you??” the insecurity in her voice, broke his heart, had he done this to her, hurt her so much that she had begun to question everything they shared. Anger was expected, but this was worse, she was more hurt than angry, and he cursed himself for the hundredth time in two weeks, he should have been more tactical, more honest then perhaps they wouldn’t have to be here, speculating their own lives.
“You mean everything to me, you didn’t when we were getting married but now you do, I love you with everything there is in me” he said before he could stop himself, and the next second cursed himself for making another blunder this was no time to tell her about this feelings, his spontaneous confession would scare her more and even if she was willing to give their relationship a chance there was a huge possibility that she wasn’t ready to fall in love again.
While he had been thinking of ways to cover up and pacify her he hadn’t been able to notice the unadulterated joy in her eyes. Before he could get a word out his wife had thrown herself in his arms and his hands had automatically found their way to her waist locking her in an embrace.
They had continued to be in this position for minutes with Prerna sobbing and Rishab whispering sweet nothings in his dear wife’s ears trying to console her.
A little later her sobs had subside and she had raised her eyes to meet her husbands and what she had said would always be engraved in Rishab’s heart forever “I love you too” she said before giving him a dazzling smile and then threatening him “doesn’t mean you are off the hook, I am still angry”
“He had quickly pulled her back in his arms already planning to pacify her.”
Things weren’t just going to be rose and peach suddenly, there would be trust issues to deal with, pasts to forget and hearts to heal but they could do this, together and forever.

Epilogue
Prerna looked at her husband, there was no sign of uneasiness in his posture but she knew better, behind the cool composed man there was a fourteen year old, still in pain and if his nightmare yesterday night was an indication this day was particularly hard on him. Today had been the final court hearing of their case,Mohini Basu was finally going to pay for her crimes and her late mother-in-law was going to get justice, ironically today was also her mother in laws death anniversary.
There was noway this victory was going to dull Rishab’s pain but at least there would be some closure, it hadn’t been tough to get the case reopened and evidences collected with Rishab’s influence, but it was tough to see her husband’s wounds open so painfully, she wondered if her insistence to deal with this matter legally had been wrong, but it was the only way to get justice for real and her husband had assured her that her suggestions had been right even if a little painful.
To see a woman she had known from her childhood turn out to be a snake had been so painful that she hadn’t been able to imagine how terrible it must be for Rishab and even Anurag, he had been shocked, enraged but most of all ashamed of what his mother was, of what she had done..
He had repeatedly apologized for mistakes he did not commit to her Husband and had even helped them in finding evidence against his own mother, this was particularly hard for him because he had once worshipped the ground his mother walked on and nivideta’s refusal to accept the truth had made it just harder she had hoped he would be able to get over this and start his life again.
“Prerna chale” her husband had inquired, showing no outward sign of discomfort or pain.
She wrapped her hand around his arm and said “I’ll always stay by your side, you know that right?”
He said nothing but gave her a grateful smile before placing a long lingering kiss on her forehead and walked out of the courtroom towards a happier tomorrow.
