Ok my reasons for disliking Yudhisthir:

1. He enjoyed the success without doing the hard work. If he didn't have Bhima and Arjuna as his brothers, he could not have achieved even half of his feats.

2. He suggested marriage of Draupadi to all and he was the one to first wed her. Being elder to Arjuna, he did not think about the results of such an action on his younger brother who actually won the princess at her swayamvar. No one can be completely happy about such an arrangement of sharing wife. Even though Vyas does not mention it, I cannot imagine Arjuna being happy about this.

3. The big one. He was a king - the head of a state. He was responsible for an entire nation and its people. And he gambled away that kingdom. What kind of king does that?

4. He gambled human beings on a game of dice. His brothers who actually put in the hard work of building the Kingdom, the ones who subjugated kingdoms to make it possible for him to conduct a Rajasuya Yagna.

5. He gambled away his wife. On a game. Nothing whatsoever will justify this act of his to me. It's completely unpardonable.

6. He told Draupadi to "put up" with Keechak AFTER he saw Keechak kick her in front of everyone in the court. What would he have done in private if he got the opportunity? He was ready for Draupadi to undergo physical and sexual abuse if it meant their identities remained a secret.

7. After everything Panchali suffered, after all the humiliation, all the conspiracies by Duryodhana, he was ready to forgive the Kauravas.

8. This is probably not something people consider his fault, but I consider him guilty of negligence ( probably not the correct word) as he let Abhimanyu go inside the Chakravyuha despite knowing that he didn't know to get out. He risked Abhimanyu's life knowingly.

There done. 😆

Again, are we talking about the serial's Yudhisthir, or the original one?

Original one - I disagree w/ him asking Arjun and Bhima to rescue the Kauravas when they were seized by the Gandharvas. I also disagree w/ him wanting his brothers and wives to help Dhritarashtra and Gandhari get over the painful memories of the war, particularly since the Pandavas too lost all of their sons (not including Babruvahana, who was irrelevant here). Also him giving Duryodhan co-hosting responsibilities at the Rajasuya yagna: Duryodhan and his cronies should not have been invited.

Otoh, I loved his remorse on hearing about Karna's death, and holding Kunti responsible.

If we're talking this serial's, I hate him always putting the Kauravas above the Pandavas. Like asking Sanjaya about Gandhari instead of Kunti, asking Krishna about Dhritarashtra first, condoling Gandhari on the death of 'her' grandson Abhimanyu and 'his' 98 brothers, blah blah blah. In fact, there's almost nothing that I liked about Gajendra Chauhan's Yudhisthir

Reposting Panchali's words on Dharmaraj😆:

They whose eldest brother becomes mad, have all to follow him in madness. Through thy madness, O king, all the Pandavas are about to become mad. If, O monarch, these thy brothers were in their senses, they would then have immured thee with all unbelievers (in a prison) and taken upon themselves the government of the earth.

KMG adds a lot of sweet talk to it. smiley36CE is more blunt. Unfortunately, it's not available free to verify unless you own the ebook, but here are the lines:

Volume 8, Chapter 1342 (14)

. Though she was always cherished by the king, she was always somewhat haughty, especially

towards Yudhishthira. Having been invited, the wide-hipped and extremely beautiful one glanced

towards her husband

95 and spoke these gentle word

...

. O Indra among kings! If the eldest brother is mad, all the others follow

him. Because you are mad, all the Pandavas will become mad. O lord of men! If these brothers of

yours were not mad, they should have bound you up with the non-believers and ruled the earth. A

person who acts stupidly does not obtain anything that is superior. A person who is on the path

towards madness should be treated with incense, collyrium, treatment through the nose,

102 medicines

and medical remedies. O supreme among the Bharata lineage! I am the worst of all women in the

world. Though I have been oppressed by the enemy, I still wish to remain alive.

Ok I know I would get a lot of backlash for this. But personally on any given day I would prefer Duryodhan over Yudhishtir.

Maybe not as a king, because Duryodhan would have spoiled the kingdom but as a human I would prefer his company over Yudhishtir's

The reasons have been listed down in details by all our friends

At least Duryodhan is clear in front of everyone. He behaves like he is. Yudhishtir might actually destroy your life and will conceal the same saying that what he did was right

And if we are discussing about this show. Then there can be no discussion at all

You know one of the most hypocritical things said by Yudhisthira?

At the Himalayas, at the point of death, he accuses Krishnaa of favouring one husband (Arjuna) over the rest.

While, he himself favoured Krishnaa over his other wife (whose name I forgot which also proves a point).
