Do we think that Meenu actually cared even a little about Kunal? His engagement was about to happen with Shweta, but broken after she deceived him (major Mehul vibes, anyone?). Why wasn't Meenu cautious then? Didn't she have any reservations about him marrying Shweta? And after all of that happened and knowing how much that hurt him, she was willing to push Shweta back into his life to manipulate him (can anyone remember why she did that? I'm so sorry, I'm not lying when I say that I'm starting to forget bits and pieces of the story. Yikes. This is what we call YRHPK withdrawal syndrome). And then she threatens Abir with the truth of Kunal's birth. What is Kunal to Meenu? Is he always just another pawn to her? A loyal dog? Or is he actually a son to her?

And another thing that bugs me is that if Meenu knew the pain of being betrayed by a man she loved, how was she willing to do the same to another woman (Kuhu)? This is where her humanity is completely lost on me.

I'm with you. There are things I admire about Meenu but when it comes to Kunal, I don't get it.

Also, remember there's a scene where meenu is upset that Kunal only seems to care about his biological mother and his wife. It's during this resort track. She genuinely seemed upset that she's losing her son but then I thought, is it just that she can't afford to lose the 1 person that's in her corner?

@Snow: I think that edit might be your best yet! Everything about it is gorgeous smiley42

@Aqua: More than her general tendency to interfere, Mishti bringing Mehul to the doorstep rubs me the wrong way because of all the implications it carried. In an age of #metoo and #believewomen, it seemed especially tone deaf to make the female lead of a show support a man who abandoned his family over a woman who kept it together. Again, the one saving grace was that they didn't try to justify Mehul in any way -- he was as rotten as Meenu said he was.

I felt so horrible for Kunal in that phase -- he kept getting jhatka after jhatka and NOBODY cared to address how he felt about his absentee dad showing up one day and asking for a hug. smiley11 On top of that Meenu kept telling him he was the only one who could get through to Abir so he felt like a failure everytime he couldn't. If it weren't for Kuhu managing him, the family would definitely have fallen apart at that juncture.

@Meera: My favourite topic!! 😃 I think the important thing to understand about Meenu's moral framework (which she passed down to Kunal) is that it's not absolute. For her, the ultimate goal is to keep the family unit she created together at all costs so everyone outside of that unit (and even sometimes the happiness of the people in it) is expendable in achieving this goal. She is not concerned whether what happened to her happens to other women in general -- her focus is solely on making sure that her mistakes aren't repeated in her family and that it isn't compromised again the way she compromised it.

So more than Abir shouldn't have his heart broken, I think her throught process was, I can't let Abir indulge in a decision that would compromise the integrity of this family and the vision I have for taking it forward, a vision which is meant to correct the mistake I made. The way I see it, Meenu couldn't really discipline Abir because the threat of Mehul coming back and claiming him always loomed large. She let him do whatever he wanted in the hope that he would see that she wasn't against him but Mehul planted that seed of mistrust very deep in Abir and essentially created a lifelong struggle for Meenu. Even when he himself is out of the picture, Abir still can't see Meenu with any kind of sympathy.

I don't think Meenu would identify as a feminist, nor is she one in the abstract, but her story and her actions have a lot of feminist undertones, simply because she is allowed to be this complex, tragic figure -- a woman who has had to water herself down to succeed in a man's world.

These two points!! Meenu is the vamp and so the show rarely shows her point of view... however I see it just like you say above Sam!

The one line that stuck with me:

"Aisa koi dil nahi, jo kabhi toota nahin

Kaanch se ummeed kya rakhna" 💔
