@Aqua: At this point, the details of the Parul-Meenu-Mehul situation come down to speculation, based on the few definite pieces of information that we have. Your reading is totally plausible, but it's equally possible that it went down exactly as Meenu has presented it -- Mehul married Meenu for the money, ended up in Rajgarh when he was on the run after she found out, and married a poor, young, beautiful Parul there and impregnated her. Then his scams in Rajgarh get found out (the document Mishti found at the police station there) and he disappears again without a trace, leaving a pregnant Parul behind. I guess they are keeping it ambiguous on purpose, so they can use that for the plot when convenient.

As far as I remember, there hasn't been any concrete explanation for why Parul knew to look for him in Rajkot, or how she found out about Meenu. The earliest flashback we have is of Meenu telling Nanu and Parul that she will take care of everything and not to worry. We have always sort of disagreed on the extent of Meenu's chalaaki taking Parul in so I won't dwell on that too much, but I am still not convinced that it would have made a significant difference if Parul was the legal wife. The way I see it, those labels only matter if Mehul was actually in the picture -- Meenu rendered him moot.

And as we have seen in the show, we don't need that twist to shift the power dynamic -- it's already happening because of Kunal and Abir knowing the truth. I was actually thinking -- what if we read Meenu not messing with Kuhu and Kunal as her holding up her end of the deal she made with Parul on their wedding day? She only started messing with them when Parul defied her and messed with her plans for separating Mishti and Abir. I am not saying Parul is wrong to take a stand, but super intrigued by how it imbalances their relationship. I am waiting for the echo in Kunal and Abir's relationship -- what happens when Kunal decides he's going to stop silently doing all the work that allows Abir to be Abir?

The generosity that Meenu showed in the past is what keeps her character interesting and prevents her from becoming a totally flat villain, so I wouldn't want to lose that with a twist that she lied then too, if that makes sense?

P.S. I am definitely intrigued by the progress of your crush. 😈 Please keep us updates.

And I know I'll probably sound like a broken record, but I think the inequality in their relationship comes from Meenu's seniority in age and mostly her ability to provide. Parul became Meenu's dependent so she gave her a certain degree of authority over her life as well as Kunal's.

I have seen theories that maybe Meenu is actually the second wife and Abir illegitimate, but I don't think it really matters either way. When all of them took on Meenu's maiden name and became a part of her maternal family, she and Nanu became the ones with the power to decide who is legitimate or not. Even if Mehul reveals that Parul is his first wife and Kunal is therefore legitimate, it doesn't really benefit him in anyway while having the Rajvansh surname and being Meenu's son does. For me, this is exactly what makes Meenu so kickass -- by taking in his other wife and child and making them dependent on her, she made her cheating husband irrelevant.

Parul was there in the flashback when Meenu brought baby Kunal home as well, and we know from Mishti's meeting with her sister that Parul got to name Kunal. She also got to participate in Kunal's wedding functions and get sargi ready for Kuhu on KC. Meenu had no problem with Parul being active in Kunal's life, and in fact created opportunities herself. They both used the secret against each other to get what they wanted for their bio sons -- Parul used it to make Meenu go through with Kuku's wedding and Meenu used it to break Mishti and Abir up. It was only when the secret was revealed and Parul used the truth to defy Meenu and get Abir and Mishti together, that Meenu retaliated and the cracks appeared in their relationship.

I love your analysis of this relationship! ❀ You make them sound like characters from american shows like HTGAWM (it's the first show that came to mind since I'm bingewatchng it 😆) - super interesting!

What I meant was, why is Parul living with all the guilt. Her dialogues and the way she behaved seemed as if she had Kunal out of wedlock. After reading all the posts (thanks everyone for bringing me up to speed), Parul had married Mehul, before Meenu or after doesn't matter, so why the shame - "daag on her daaman". Sorry, I'm not getting it.đŸ˜”

Thanks to you, Sam, and everyone else on the forum, I'm understanding the dynamics and how these two work but they're backstory seems incomplete. Maybe we're supposed to make up our own version.

I do agree with Meera though that the explicit declaration of Kuhu as negative through that cursed promo came out of nowhere. I am fairly certain that the Nishant track was supposed to last longer because they jumped into shaadi very suddenly so they could bring that track to a close. Don't even get me started on how they threw N under the bus at the last moment to make the leads sympathetic. đŸ€Ź That's a whole other story.

With the off site sequence, there was a lot of build up and foreshadowing for Nishant to play a sigificant role in both love stories and at the time, they teased that Kuku's divorce was only a few days away. That was clearly supposed to be the next major plot point, but they pushed it off and went with Kunal's birth truth, Misbhir misunderstanding and the NishMish shaadi instead. Before it all unfolded, I was pretty convinced that Kunal's birth truth would come after the divorce reveal, that he would seek Kuhu out after he learned the truth. The audience reaction really messed with what they had planned for that phase, I feel.

They really did mess up! I feel like we lost the charm of the show due to it. I certainly would've been invested in the overall story had they stuck to their original plan.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: I would watch the heck out of a show with Meenu as protagonist! What we know of her story reminds me a lot of the Shabana Azmi film, Godmother, which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it. It's that well-worn story of a woman trying to make it in a man's world, struggling to survive and succeeding, only to find that she's become everything she had to fight against. It's a tragic arc with so much potential, not to mention how amazing it would be to watch these two women manage the family and co-parent their two boys, while showing implicit faith in each other (to catch glimpses of this, the early episodes of the Mehul arc are worth a revisit).

I can see why Parul would set store by the old ideas of purity and chastity, and even if the two women know they didn't do anything wrong, society is there to cast aspersions on them and their children. I believe that Meenu's goal in all this was to erase this ignominy and restore her family to respectability in one generation. I think that is also why she wanted uncomplicated bahus with straightforward families -- she doesn't really want to carry the legacy of dysfunctionality/non-normativity forward. Kuhu went out of her way and succeeded in showing Meenu that she was actually an ally in this mission; she had a great example in Varsha who seamlessly integrated a non-normative relationship into a very normative family.

Meenu already worries about Abir because he wants to embrace their family's and his own eccentricity and shout it from the rooftops, while she keeps trying to reign him in to create and conserve this more safe, accepted and conventional family. His choice of Mishti as a partner, both because of her background and her rogue personality take Abir even further away from the vision of family that Meenu has strived for. That's what makes her so anti-Mishti.

@Snow: I don't know what you are talking about! I think it's gorgeous and lends a totally different feel to the scene. In the show it was all hopeful and building to a crescendo but with this music, it feels slow and deliberate, and puts the focus more on their mutual longing. I loved it!

Snow, are you KIDDING ME? This is SO beautiful! And yes, the song is super different from what was in the show, but it totally fits the visual! Like Sam said, it completely changes the mood. Instead of a hopeful love, it tells a story of a longing and melancholy love. If this had been an independent scene in the episode with just the two of them, I would have wanted this!

Can someone please rewrite the Nishant track?? So want a better version of that because I was so excited a super fun and positive character. I had really hoped to see him be a shipper like our Jugnu but be super instrumental in the story. They had built him so nicely till the offsite and then for some reason, they just ruined the whole track out of nowhere.
