Yes SRJ said backstory was the main reason but in that same interview he also said backstory and the journey of this character made his take the show, its definitely not just a court case. Backstory track is the base of this second season apart from miya bond.

In fact mini does have some superficial similarity with the guest dressing, guy friends, independent she also will be with Neil against her family's wishes at the same time she is different she stands with people whom she loves and her expression seeing Neil's parents photo was completely different Oberoi house is being given a lot of importance and makers are taking their time to show it. Makers have not worked on Neil's story for months just to show a court case but there is a story after the case it's a new age love story.
