Agony or Deceit (Part 2)
“As a doctor, I do not prefer to let her go alone. It would be better if you could come to receive her.”, the doctor said.
“Hmm. Okay.” Rishabh hangs the call.
His head begins to ache as his shocked self tries to deny what he had just heard. He doesn’t even remember what had happened that night. The sweat on the stressed crease of his forehead and the uneasiness of his palms and shoulders manifest a panic at work. All this while he is unconscious of Prerna embracing him from behind and caressing his chest. He takes a deep breath to normal his raised heartbeat and with a heavy effort, turns around, finds an excuse,
“Umm..Prerna wo… kuch kaam aa gya urgent.. I think I have to go.. shayad..”
“Jana hoga? But you’ve just come..”, her reply is a displeased startle.
“Actually zaroori hai.. shayad.. jana hi hoga..”, he tries to vocalize a pretentious normal self.
“Kya kaam hai?”, she is bitter now.
“Shayad...It won’t take much time. Main jaldi aa jaunga.. Prerna”, the words have lost all significance but he manages to utter something.
“Par Mr.Bajaj, kaam kya hai itni raat ko?” She attempts to be empathetic.
“Prerna, please! Hai kuch kaam!” His unforeseen irritability infuriates her into dejection.
May be a woman can tolerate many things but certainly not this. Yet she has no choice but truth be told, for now her deep desire is to break his phone, handcuff him and lock him with herself in this room and "chabi kho jaye!"
“To aap aye kyun?” Her sharp counter hits hard at his sensitive heart while her retort continues thus, “Kaam khatam karke ana than na! Main rok to nhi sakti apko. Go!”
Without any idea of what to say, his steps walk towards the doorway even as he is absorbed with the recently revealed truth. All he wants for now is to keep himself from shattering into fragments. Prerna gets restless as he is about to step out of the room,
“Suno! Apna dhyan rkhna aur jaldi aa jaiyega.”
With a slight nod and an unsure smile, he rushes out of the door.
[BG for both [Kya pyaar karoge… Mujhse……haan…haan…haan…mujhse……]]
As he drives, his intellect feels dead. His expressions betray a man who is aware that his world has collapsed but carries on in the dim hope that everything will be fine one day.
He reaches the unwanted destination and enquires at the reception, “Madhavi Bose? Room no.?”, a part in him dies as he spells these words.
“101, sir!”
There is only Madhavi in the room. She looks at him like an injured woman pretending that he is not needed. His confusion and despair are mixed with an unexplained guilt. Embarrassed, he can’t look her in the eyes and desperately hopes for somebody to arrive. The doctor enters in a few minutes.
Meanwhile Prerna sits leaning on the bed, plays on a romantic song and feels Mr.Bajaj’s presence:
Tann saup diya,mann saup diya,
Kuch aur to mere pass nhi
Jo tumse hai mere humdum
Bhagwan se bhi wo aas nhi.. bhagwaan se bhi wo aas nhi
Jis din se huye ekduje ke
Iss duniya se anjaan hai hum
Ek dil ke do armaan hai hum
O mere sanam O mere sanam
Do jism magar ek jaan hai hum
Ek dil ke do armaan hai hum
“Rishabh Bajaj!”, wearily introducing himself.
“Dr.Khanna! Your wife is almost four months pregnant but she is absolutely not taking care of herself. Please, take care especially for her diet. She has been stressing herself out apparently. Otherwise, there is no need to worry. And these are the medicines. You may take her now.”, the doctor gives a friendly smile.
Has he just tripped into a surreal dystopia from the seventh heaven? Anyways he faintly succeeds to give a thankful gesture towards the doctor and signals at Madhavi, with his eyes looking at the floor, to come along and they begin to leave.
“Mr. Bajaj! Congratulations!”, the cheerful voice of the doctor from behind wounds him.
On the way, he is ashamed of himself for imagining if only Madhavi had told him before, they could have got it aborted. What? He almost hates himself to entertain this idea. Madhavi breaks the silence as he is about to drop her,
“Main apko bulana nhi chahti thi but they insisted on knowing the father’s name because I was not in the best of conditions.” Her demeanor is a gloomy fusion of arrogance and agony. He observes that he ought to say something but all expressions seem to have retired, so he just hesitantly watches her open the door of the car and walk away until she disappears.
While stuck in the traffic the frozen shape of his mind transforms into a hyperactive flux,
“Prerna needs to know this. Ye nahi chupa sakta. But if she leaves me? Of course, she will. Usey btana hoga. But she loves me. She can’t leave me for just one damn mistake.I was not in my senses, for God’s sake. I can’t remember anything. Mistake has a consequence now. She needs to know. Main kaise jeeunga? This will shatter her. She can’t take this. She needs to know. No! What about that child? My child? And Madhavi? Whose mistake is this? What will happen? My marriage? My love? My child? A bruise for lifetime? She will lose all trust and faith. Everything will finish? She needs to know? Yes!”
The car halts with a jerk as he hopes to destroy all this chatter with this sudden application of break. Sitting inside, he struggles to define his present status: “guilty or innocent?”. A tormenting fear expands its claws and sinks him inside itself. He is afraid. Of what? Of everything now. He rests his head on the steering-wheel and massages the point between his eyebrows to stop his mind from getting burst. He wants to shout out loud so that someone can listen and console him on what has just happened. But nobody comes. He plays on the stereo to soothe himself and these lines of the song particularly strikes him,
“If only there could be
Another way to do this
‘Cause it feels like murder
To put your heart through this
I know I always said
That I could never hurt you
Well, this is the very, very last time
I’m ever going to”
Prerna has fallen asleep waiting for him. He trudges inside, changes and lies down.
It’s only in the morning that he could sleep for some two hours. When he wakes up, he is in the same maze again,
“My child? My marriage? Who is guilty? Guilty or innocent? What will remain? What will end? She needs to know.” The chatter begins again.
“Uhhh… shutup! Shut up!” hitting his fingers on his forehead even as he prays to end this torture right now. He has decided,
“Pta nhi aage kya hoga par ye to krna hoga. Usey btana hoga. Wo toot jaegi to? Prerna, dhokha tumhe de nhi skta aur dard tumhe main dena nhi chahta. Shayad dard hi dunga. I am sorry, Prerna. Main aisa kabhi nhi chahta tha.”
Prerna, in a chestnut brown saree, is arranging the breakfast on the table when Rishabh, dressed in a beige colour shirt and chestnut vest, feebly advances and sits. She gives him a look and shakes her head in a serious “kuch nhi ho skta inka” expression. Neither of the two speaks. He knows why she is upset but is too tired in mind to give explanation. He is preparing himself for her breakdown when she will hear about the unfortunate fact from him.
“Bachche kahan hain sab?”, he asks as none of them is seen around.
“Bchche nani ke gye hain.”, she doesn't look at him but replies with a stern and unsettled face.
“Good morning, Papa!” the bubbly Sneha greets her father and hugs him. This is the first time he feels relieved in the past twelve hours.
“Good morning, mera bachcha!” he hugs her back. “Aap nani ke nhi gyi?”
“Nahi Papa.. mumma ne mujhe jane nhi diya. Papa, mujhe bhi nani ke jana hai,pleaseee..! mumma se kehdo na.”
“Prerna, jane do na Sneha…”, before he can complete,
“Iske exams hain. Do din baad Tushar lene aa jaega Sneha ko.” she replies like she doesn’t want to talk but in her heart she desires him to lure her with his amorous appeals.
Rishabh assumes that things have already begun to collapse. How can a man like him become so pessimistic? Well, of course, the circumstances are such. Meanwhile, his phone rings. Gupta is calling.
“Haan Gupta!”
Brilliant continuation! The portrayal of his troubled psyche was absolutely flawless. ❤️Originally posted by: Sonnet1111

Yes she was older to junior Prem aka Yudi played by Karanvir Bohra
The whole decision making process to spend a night together to save Sneha was traumatic. RB gave permission because he loved Sneha so much. But he stayed awake the whole night. He always stood by Prerna, at his own expense.
