I agree with your observation that Shakuni is not the real villain. He himself swore to destroy the mighty Kuru parivaar for the injustice meeted out to him & his family & his sister. He used the Kurus lust for power, arrogance, and adharma to pit them against the Pandus and thereby ensuring the end of the Kuru dynasty but in doing that he also had to die coz even if by heart he knew the truth, he was part of evil deeds and paid the price. A price that even Maya will have to pay. A price even Krishna paid watching the Yadavas destroy each other and Dwarka sinking in the ocean.

The victory of evil is because of the silence of the righteous and MB began because of it. I agree that Bhishma began a chain of events that led to the greatest war in the history of India and he had to bear watching his family destroy itself. Blood killing blood. Arjun is the truest disciple there can be but as a husband he has made errors too. Draupadi married him and he agreed to share her just by his moms words. I never liked it. Even in taking revenge, it was Bhim who was always by Draupadis side. Similarly if Drona had not made Eklavya cut his thumb, he did been a competition to Arjun. So for me he isn't perfect. But still he is Bharatvarshs biggest adhinayak. Much like I see Rudra moving in that direction
