The actor is busy shooting in Bangkok for Shortcut
Akshaye Khanna was the only cast member missing from the premiere of Abbas-Mustan's Race. Reason? He is in Bangkok shooting for Neeraj Vora's Shortcut.
"I need a break as I'm homesick. If I get an off for three days, I'll fly back," he says. "We get only one day off every 10 days. That isn't enough to dash in and out of Mumbai."
Make a presence
Race isn't the first multi-starrer that the actor has worked in. "It's never easy to find proper space for all the actors in a cluttered cast.
It takes people like Abbas-Mustan to come up with a script that justifies everyone's presence. They've tremendous trust in me; they allow me to improvise quite a lot."
Akshaye was more than happy to be working with Saif in Race. "Saif and I had a fantastic time during Dil Chahta Hai. We spent time together during LOC as well.
But I had never worked with the Race girls β Bipasha, Katrina and Sameera. They're all so wonderful and looking smashing in the film. Anahita Adajania has really dressed us up well."
Shortcut, which is set in the film industry, has Akshaye play a director while Arshad Warsi essays an actor. Amrita Rao is Akshaye's co-star. "She's a sweet girl. Though raw, she's a good actress. Amrita is now coming into her own," gushes Akshaye.
The actor's next release is Priyadarshan's comedy Mere Baap Pehle Aap. "I'm in it with Paresh Rawal. It's one of those films that will put a smile on everyone's face."
