Ayushman's sub-genre is delightful but repetitive

I almost know what to expect when I walk into some of his movies these days. !) Issue, 2) Jokes around the said issue which are clever and very local in their flavour, 3) Ayushman will be the torch-bearer of change

I love all his movies but Shubh Mnagal Zyaada Saavdhan falls in the same trap. It uses humour as a crutch to ward off a social taboo, has the family mileu and blends the same genres of family entertainer and social comedy. It's delightful but repetitive.

i really want him to try something new, and Gulabo Sitabo might/might not be that.

I want him to try a thriller, a masala entertainer, a dark film and an action flick. That way, we will see his real versatility.

I understand what you're saying. His characters seem more or less same in recent films.

BUT, he just won an award for his performance in Article 15, which was a crime-drama. So he is trying different stuff too.

He is not cut-out for actions/thrillers and will look really out of place in those films. (would love to be proven wrong tho)

As far as masala entertainers go, They SHOULD NOT be a parameter to judge an actors versatility.

I don't want him to get wasted in those mindless entertainment films. (e.g. Housefull 4)

Instead of dark films, I would love to see him in a romcom like HumTum
OR a film like Kabir Singh where he plays a crazy passionate lover 😉 , just to see how audiences react to it lol.

Article 15 and Andhadhun jaisi filmein bhi kiye hai usne 🤔

Yeah, its true his sub-genre is repetitive, but I would say these films are still better than whatever many of the A-list celebs keep doing.

Also it seems to me like Ayushman is the only one willing to do such unconventional roles. I want to know how many mainstream actors would agree to play a bindas openly gay indian man in a BW film. I dont think many will.

I actually don't find this repetitive wala point valid. I know that alot of people say that he just plays a guy with a social problem

Article 15 was suspence/crime

Andhadhun was just quirky

Badhai ho - i don't think parents getting pregnant is any big social problem in this country

Dream girl was him just trying to make money by imitating a girl

And smzs is abt homosexuality which you can't club it as a 'problem'.

The only movies that might have a pattern would probably be sms and Bala

.... I think people tend to generalise way too much... Like Ranbir gets criticised for always playing a man child... But if you see his movies every performance is different....

Same way ayushmann gets slotted as playing the guy with a social problem .... But that is not true if you just scrape the surface..

I was hoping someone would come up in defence of Ranbir. i completely agree with you, Ranbir's characters are all different from each other. Also, he brings something unique to the table with each character, so even if they do have SOME similarities like Rockstar and Tmasha, the roles come across as authentic when played onscreen.

Ranbir's characters were different on surface level

but the shades & crux of them were very same, & totally interconnected.

What makes Bollywood films so delightful

Absolutely hilarious but also a documentary cz he’s spot on. Not one word is wrong (except I think smooches SHOULD be censored, and they’re NOT...
