Ha I agree with this. I remember saying BTS guys are so handsome on a site filled with Americans and they were making fun of BTS so much saying they look "soft", not natural, ugly, look like girls, etc. I think their mind is blown if anyone likes Asian guys because they expect Europeon standard to be touted as the standard of beauty forever. They also constantly talk about white men being the most attractive, so they can't take it if any other race's men is liked at all. They're super derogatory towards Asian men and Indian men, Indian men are talked about as if they are a joke. It's so annoying.Originally posted by: AllThatCritique
Meh. I find the whole 'they look like girls' things so degrading and borderline xenophobic/racist just because that's just society basically rating looks based on Eurocentric beauty biases lol. The European beauty standards are touted as the ideal man or woman and anything outside that is shocking to people and 'not man enough' not 'woman enough'.
You see the same emasculation when it comes to North East people in our own country by the others. Made to feel like they don't belong because they don't look like the rest of us when infact people from north and south don't even look the same lol.
A lot of times calling Korean men girls or feminine is just that. Deep rooted preference for Eurocentric features so when a man is supremely pretty he's called a 'girl' cause the men in their heads can never have softer, prettier beauty just on his own or it's just not 'manly enough' which is funny because who decided what features are masculine and which feminine. Its the colonizers. It's the same with the amount of makeup they wear and colourful hair. It does not fit their narrative of beauty. You would hear words like 'exotic' used too. It's all just a narrow worldview due to lack of exposure to the rest of the world.
Infact you see the same trend when it comes to black women who are termed as 'not womanly enough' because of their stunning strong features. Ironical how black men and asian women are straight up fetishes for people. Same features yet one caters to Eurocentric ones and one doesn't. Again, narrow worldview with no exposure.
And I agree with you on the plastic surgery. The Korean Society is so beauty based ( Japanese and Chinese too, Phillipines a little less) that you get bullied for your looks straight from school. It's like PS is almost forced on you. Parents give it on birthdays to their children. It's a nightmare to be a celeb there.
