Why many Punjabi songs have male singers singing on behalf of Female lead?

So a lot of devotional/sufi songs are sung like that usually coz even though it talks about love, it’s the love between a devotee and the divine. The devotee being female and the divine being male. Also, the female is believed to be more sentimental and full of emotions. So when Kailash Kher says preet ki latt mohe aisi laagi, ho gayi mein deewani - the song is being sung in praise and in love of the almighty. Maybe this has a similar reason.
A lot of the punjabi songs sung from a female perspective are also full of intense emotions.
