Huge commercial entertainers or slice-of-life movies?

Which one do you like more and why?

For me, I prefer slice-of-life movies like English Vinglish, Queen etc. because I can relate more to them. I can also identify with the protagonist and that creates a sense of fulfillment.

I also like commercial entertainers at times, especially if they are well-made, like War. But my preference is generally for smaller movies, like the ones mentioned above.

Small scale content films, preferably not so bleak ones. Story should be at least coherent for me to enjoy it, and performances at least average. Good film and performances lifts the mood and becomes a nice memory, like a book well enjoyed. Only a very few commercial movies have done that

Used to be pretty clear cut earlier. Bollywood for romance and larger than life commercial multistarrers. Hollywood for sitcoms and urban love stories. Regional cinema for slice of life. The pattern changed sometime in the last 10 years maybe with Break ke Baad.Bollywood films started losing their individuality with all the foreign returned newbie scriptwriters and directors. Too often dialogues look like they've been originally written in English. The fashion, costumes, gestures, everything looks plucked out from a Hollywood set. With the success of Bareilly ki barfi and other Ayushmann Khurrana flicks suddenly small town and slice of life movies have become popular.

I love me a well made movie - regardless of the language, method, genre, budget and cast&crew!
