A Glimpse Of The Past

Taani leaves from there after hearing Rey…All are smiling at Rey and his antics

“Rey meri bahu ka mazzak mat udao…To kya hua agar use khana banana nahi ata??Vo best hai” Daddu admonishes him in a teasing way

“Kya Daddu nayi dost mil gayi to apne iss purane dost ko bhool gaye??” Rey comments dramatically

“Taani aur daadu ki friendship ho bhi gayi?” Purvi exclaims astonished

“Haan Bhabhi” Rey replies back and gets lost in his thoughts…Everyone notices this…

“Are Rajnish aapne time dekha…Hame to Mehra’s ke yaha party ke liye jaana hai na??” Avantika asks him suddenly remembering the party invite

“Are 6:30 baj bhi gaye…Hame to waha 8 baje tak pahuchna hai…Chalo jaldi ready ho jaate hai…Family ke saath time kaise gujarta hai pata hi nahi chalta” Rajnish replies…Both Avantika and Rajnish leave from there…Rey is still lost somewhere…Purvi nudges Arjun to talk with Rey

“Rey” Arjun calls out softly knowing where exactly Rey must be lost

“Haan bhai” Replies Rey coming out of his thoughts…He notices his mom and dad missing and looks here and there

“Vo dono Mehra’s key aha party ke liye jaa rahe hai so ready hone gaye hai” Explains Arjun and further asks “Tu theek hai na??”

“Haan bhai bas vo” Rey stumbles on his words not knowing what to reply to Arjun…Arjun understands he is not comfortable in talking about this so he just ruffles Rey’s hair and smiles

“We are here Rey…If you want to share anything…And I mean anything” Arjun stresses on anything and Rey just nods getting his point…

“Chalo main Purvi ko leke jaa raha hoon…Maine use promise kiya tha ki aaj use chaat khilaunga…Bahut mann kar raha hai uska” Arjun tells Rey and Arjun leaves from there with Purvi…Avantika and Rajnish also comes outside and leaves for party…

“Move on karna matlab past ko bhoolana nahi hota ye samajh le tu” Daadu says startling Rey…He quickly looks up at Daadu

“Daadu vo...main...bas aaj...” Rey tries to explain his emotions

“Main jaanta hoon…Maine dekha…Main tha wahi pe” Daadu says with a smile

“Daadu aapko kaise…Maine kuch kaha bhi nahi” Rey asks

“Ye baal yuhi safed nahi hue…Aur dost hoon tumhara…Ye baatein doston ko pata chal jaati hai…Tum jitna tumhare past se bhagoge utna vo tumhe pakad ke rakhega…Taani bahut alag hai beta usse kaafi alag hai…Jitna maine Taani ko iss mahine mein jaana hai usse ye to clear hai ki dono mein jameen asmaan ka farak hai” Daadu explains Rey

Ramu Kaka comes there to pick the cups and dishes and hears a part of conversation…Rey is again lost in his thoughts…He doesn’t know what to reply to his daadu…Ramu Kaka looks at Rey and understanding dawns on him

“Rey baba chota mooh badi baat par main kuch kehna chahta hoon…bauji agar aapki aur Rey baba ki ijajat ho to main kuch kahu?” Ramu Kaka hesitates to say something

“Are beta…Tum bhi to iss ghar ka hi ek hissa ho tum bilkul mat jhijakna” Daadu comforts him

“Haan Kaka…Aap mujhe aapke beta jaisa maante ho to fir ye jhijak kyun?” Asks Rey

“Maaf karna bauji abhi jab aap aur rey baba baat kar rahe the to maine abhi aapki ki baatein suni..Jaanbujhke nahi par yaha aa raha tha to sunai di” He explains his them not wanting them to misunderstand him

“Haan Kaka…Aapko jo kehna hai saaf saaf kahiye aur haan pehle aap yaha baithiye” Rey says softly and makes Ramu Kaka sit on a chair next to him

“Ab kahiye jo kehna hai”

“Vo aaj dopeher main aapke kamre mein aaya tha choti bahu ko bulane” Not expecting this Rey is startled…Not knowing where this conversation is going he waits patiently for Ramu kaka to finish…Even he is surprise cause Ramu Kaka has always preferred to call Taani as mam instead of anything else due to a past incident…

“Jab main vaha aaya bauji ka sandesh leke tab” and he narrates everything to Rey

“Rey Baba..Bauji bilkul theek keh rahe hai…Dono mein kaafi farak hai…Aur mujhe aaj bahut khushi hai ki choti bahu aapki zindagi mein aayi...Dekhna apne saath saath khushiyon ka bhandaar leke aayi hai vo…Sabke jindagi mein khushiyan hi bhar dengi” Ramu Kaka tells Rey his point of view and collects the cup and leaves from there…Rey ponders over his words

“Rey chal main jara bahar park mein apne doston se milke aata hoon” Announces Daadu and leaves from there…Rey also leaves from there and directly goes to terrace…

Here Taani is on terrace lost in her own thoughts thinking back to Rey’s words…Rey enters the terrace and notices Taani lost in her own thoughts…Rey goes and stands beside her and stares into oblivion like her…When she doesn’t come out of her thoughts he shakes her and she comes out of her trance…Rey is shocked to see tears brimming in her eyes…

“Taani…F*ck…What happened??Why are u crying??” Rey asks with concern…Taani just keeps staring at him…

Rey gently cups her face “Taani…Hua kya hai??Plz batao…Maa Papa ki yaad aa rahi hai?” Taani shakes her head negatively…

“To fir??Sharon Swayam ki?” Taani again shakes her head…Rey is confused as he doesn’t know why Taani is upset…

“Taani agar tum bataogi nahi to mujhe pata kaise chalega ki problem kya hai?” Rey asks getting a bit frustrated

“Vo maine neeche aap sab ki baatein sunli…I know ki halwa maine nahi aapne banaya tha” Taani finally admits…Rey curses

“Taani please tum bura mat manana uss baat ka…Vo hum sab aisehi baat kar rahe hai…I am sorry…Mera tumhe hurt karne ka koi intention nahi tha…Aur main kisiko batane bhi nahi wala tha but sabko pata chal gaya” Rey admits and continues further to explain but Taani keeps her hands on Rey’s which were still cupping her face…

“Reyansh please mujhe complete karne dijiye” Taani interrupts Rey…Rey nods his head and asks her to continue

“Reyansh maine neeche sab sunn liya aur main bahut hairan ho gayi thi ki aapne ye sab mere liye kiya…I just want to say Thanku so much ki aapne meri respect ke liye ye kiya…Sab ko pata chala doesn’t matter to me kyunki sabko waise bhi kabhi na kabhi ye pata chalna tha ki I can’t cook…Par aaj aapne mujhe pehle din embarrass hone se bacha liya and what matters to me most are your intentions which were pure so Thanku so much…Aapko mujhe kuch explain karne ki jaroorat nahi hai” Taani confesses…Rey is shocked to see this mature version of Taani who understands him so well…Rey just gives her a smile…

“Reyansh kuch puchu aapse??” Taani asks with hesitation…

“Haan Taani pucho…Y r u hesitating?”

“Vo dopeher mein maine daadu se dosti ki kya vo aapko pasand nahi aaya?”

Rey is shocked to know the hesitation behind her question…His expressions were caught by Taani and also she had completely misunderstood him but he can’t even blame her…

“Taani first of all maine kuch bada nahi kiya…I knew how to cook to maine bana diya…Ab wife ho tum meri…Tumhari respect means meri respect…Koi tum pe bewajah ungli uthaye ye main kabhi bardasht nahi karunga…Aur ek baat ye family jitni meri hai utni tumhari bhi…To jo tumhare mann mein aaye karo...Jaise tum apne ghar pe bejijhak bol de deti thi yaha bhi bol do…Aur tumhe aisa kyun laga ye main bhi jaanta hoon…Aur main tumhe vo abhi batata hoon” Taani is surprised hearing Rey’s words

“Mujhe tumhari aur daadu ki frndship se bhala kya problem ho sakti hai?Balki main to khush hoon aur rahi baat mere reaction ki to fir uski wajah tum nahi koi aur hai” Taani’s eyes widen hearing him…Its not like she doesn’t know about what had happened but they both had never went into specific details…

“U know aap jo chahe mujhse share kar sakte hai and main aapko kabhi bhi judge nahi karungi” Taani reassured him

“This applies to you as well madam” Rey mumbles but doesn’t asks her right now cause it was much more important to clear her misunderstanding...

“Tumhe maine to sab bata diya tha right to baat ye hai ki daadu se friendship usne kabhi nahi kiyi…She use to be like main saare age groups se comfortable nahi hoon vo hamare Dadaji hai unhe unki respect aur jagah milni chahiye aur mujhe bahut tajub hua tha ki aaj kal ki modern ladki jo US mein pali badhi ho jiske dad yahi ke ho par mom waha ki ho aur jispe mom ka itna bada influence ho vo apne roots ko leke itni protective kaise hai” Rey went down memory lane…

“Par bullshit!!!! Jhoot tha vo sab…” He shouted angrily making her flinch but she kept quiet

“Dikhava to aisa tha unka ki kitni respect karti hai par sach to ye tha ki kabhi usse ye kuch chahiye hi nahi tha…Usse sirf main chahiye tha aur hamara property ka share” Rey muttered in disgust

“To mujhe uss baat pe hairani hui ki tum aur Daadu itni jaldi itne acchese gel ho gaye” Rey confesses looking straight in her eyes

“Taani you know I always wanted a life partner jo mujhe samjhe aur mere rishto ko bhi utni hi importance dein jitna main deta hoon..I understand ki kabhi kabhi hamein space chahiye hogi par meri family mere liye bahut special hai…Aur vo itne orthodox aur narrow minded nahi hai ke tum kuch bolo aur vo na samjhe…Aur agar vo itne understanding hai to main kuch to expect karunga na apne partner se right?Aur main tumhe thanku kehna chahta hoon” Rey smiles gratefully at her

“Thanku aur mujhe...vo kyun??” Taani asks in confusion

“Ramu kaka ko aaj firse unki respect lautane ke liye jisko kabhi meri wajah se thais pahuchi thi” Taani looks at him shocked and is about to ask him what he means when his phone rings and he excuses himself…

After talking on phone he comes and tells her that he has to finish a presentation which he has to present in a conference in Dehradoon…After listening Dehradoon Taani’s face falls again…Rey notices but doesn’t comments and leaves from there…Taani stands there and again starts looking into horizon when Daadu enters…

“Kya hua?”

“Kuch nahi daadu..Bas yuhi” Taani hesitates

“Dekho beta…Tumhe khana banana nahi ata ismein koi badi baat nahi…Purvi aur Avantika bana sakte hai tum koi aur kaam kar lena…Aur meri maano to ghar ka kaam karna hi mat…Mere saath rehna…Khub gappe ladhaenge” Krishnaraj teases her and Taani’s mouth opens in a O and Krishnaraj starts laughing

“Itna sochogi to iss rishte ko khule dil se mauka de paugi?” Krishnaraj asks her after observing her

“Daadu vo main”

“Main ye nahi keh raha ki jo hua bhool jao par use yaad karne ke bajay sabak banake rakho apne paas dekho aasani hogi tumhe bhi aur Rey ko bhi” Krishnaraj advises her and keeps a hand on her head

“Main samajh rahi hoon Daadu aap kya kehna chahate ho aur ab to mujhe itna acche dost bhi mil gaye hai jo mujhe kabhi koi galat advise nahi de sakte” Taani teases at the end which makes him smile

“Chalo neeche khane ka wakt ho gaya aur packing bhi karni hai na tumhe?” Krishnaraj tells her and they both go downstairs
