You don't give anyone else the same position as Allah-because He is one. I think he meant that Allah doesn't accept worshipping someone else, and why should I accept that she loves someone (or put someone in the same position as) other than me.

I think it's to do more with the word 'shareek' than actual shirk. He's against sharing the relationship he has with his wife with a third person.
