I dont think she wanted to have sympathy 🤔 She seemed to genuinely give the letter to Asim as its from his family, I think if it was anyone else she would still give the letter.

Mahira was confident that Asim can convince others to give her letter if she gives him his letter .. since this was just after Asim's fight with shefali, she thought whoever gets it, be it bhau, shefali, Asim, aarti - she'll get her letter.

Why else would she say Meri madad karega na after giving his letter?

If you say Mahira tried to gain public sympathy here, then Asim too tried another version of the trick with Paras with the poverty card. Both succeeded.

it is not about sid at all

we are talking about mahira's game & strategies, and with sid in secret room it has nothing to do with him

besides in my personal opinion mahira & paras are not on anyone's side, they are the most selfish, ungrateful people of this show, they are only on sid's side because it is working in their favour, as someone pointed out in one of the threads they are snakes and sid will have to be cautious of them

It's just a game. But these contestants don't hate each other that much. Even in unseen they have got along well. People are fighting here, and these contestants will be clicking photos 😂.

On the positive note, I think, more than getting sympathy, captaincy was important for her, when she already knows that she was in bottom 2 Also, she always had soft corner for Asim, she wanted to give him cake on her birthday, she didn't torture asim in torture task. She isn't a pure evil who can't go right and Asim isn't god who can't go wrong . They both are humans with flaws. I would appreciate the gesture shown by Mahira towards Asim and Asim towards arti. Let's appreciate the positive.
