The 2000s examples you gave weren’t exactly mainstream films. I’m not saying Fashion was the first one ever but in the 2000s up until Fashion there wasn’t very many mainstream female led films. Fashion started a trend.

Not true. Vidya Balan started that trend and the others enhanced it. Fashion wasn't even a clean hit at the box office.

Fashion was a big success regardless. It clashed with Golmaal 2 but still did well, Priyanka and Kangana won all the awards and National Award. After Fashion in 2008 there were a lot more female led films including Vidya’s films The Dirty Picture (2011), Kahaani (2012) etc.
