Chapter 8
It was past midnight but Prerna couldn’t sleep, Rishabh was busy with some work in his study he had asked Prerna to sleep and not wait for him if it gets late but she couldn’t sleep without him. She wanted to go and check on him but she felt exhausted, going out for shopping was a good idea but now she felt tired. She just wanted to sleep in her husband’s arms but he was not ready to come back to their room. She finally decided to go and get him to the room.
‘Rishabh..’
Prerna called his name as she walked into the study and was surprised to see her husband sleeping with his head on the desk, she walked to him silently, as she neared him she noticed how tired he looked, she started caressing his hair gently
‘He is always so busy taking care of me and Kukki that he forgets to take care of himself…’
It was true that Rishabh was always on his toes these days, he would wake up before her and get Kukki ready for school so that Prerna didn’t have to stress herself, he was working from home most of the time just to be by her side. He was doing everything that he could to make her feel special and happy.
Prerna didn’t realise when her eyes teared up as she kept stroking his hair gently, it was her hormones that had to be blamed again for suddenly making her feel so emotional while loving gazing at her husband. She leaned towards him and placed a soft kiss on his forehead but she woke him up with her action.
Rishabh took a second to compose himself but when he saw tears in Prerna’s eyes he quickly rose to his feet. Before he could question her Prerna hugged him tightly and sobbed in his chest
‘Prerna.. what’s wrong?’
‘I feel really bad for troubling you…’
He broke the hug and wiped her tears, cupping her face with one hand he tried to console her
‘No Jaan… you don’t trouble me at all…’
‘I do.. aap hamesha mere mood swings handle karte hain, meri har demand puri karte hain…aaj bhi aapko shopping pe nahi jana tha par main zabardasti aapko leke gai.. aap Itna thaq Gaye the ki kaam karte karte yahin so gaye..’
‘Zabardasti kahan ki thi Jaan.. main toh apni marzi se aapke saath aya tha na.. aur aapke mood swings itne bhi drastic nahi hote hain aur na hi aapki demand itni high hoti hain ki main unhe pura na kar sakun… I can never get tried taking care of you… so you don’t have to blame yourself for anything…’
Rishabh knew that his wife had a tendency of blaming herself for everything that happened.
‘Listen.. you have to stop crying now… Baby ko bhi bura feel ho raha hoga ki uski Mamma aise ro rahi hai..’
He tried to cheer her up by addressing the Baby as he gently caressed her swollen belly.
‘Pakka mere wajah se aapko trouble nahi ho raha na??’
‘Haan Jaan.. pakka…in fact I love to fulfil your demands’
Rishabh said as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and guided her back to their room. He made her lie in the bed and then followed her suite, Prerna moved closer to him and rested her head on his chest, Rishabh started stroking her hair until sleep came to both of them.

Prerna woke up because of trust and glanced at the watch, it was nearly 7 in the morning. She tilted her head to look at her husband who was still sleeping peacefully, a playful smile formed on her lips as she moved closer to his face and started tracing it with her fingers. Even though she was really thirsty, she didn’t want to get out of the bed.
Now that she knew that he loved her too, she felt excited to be so close to him, as her fingers moved to his lips she could feel his breath becoming uneven. She assumed that he must have woken up and was just acting to sleep. She was about to withdraw her hand but Rishabh caught it and slowly opened his eyes
‘What’s going on in your head early in the morning Mrs. Bajaj?!’
He teased her and saw Prerna turn red due to the blush.
‘Vo … I…’
‘What? You thought that I was sleeping so you could take advantage of me?’
Prerna knotted her eyebrows at him and replied to him
‘Advantage!?’
‘Yeah.. you thought that I was sleeping so you could enjoy yourself by trying to get closer to me when I was asleep…’
He said in a husky tone and leaned closer to her face. Prerna understood his intentions
‘Why would I try to come closer to you when your asleep… vo toh main tab bhi kar sakti hun jab aap jag rahe hote hain…’
She replied to him in a low voice and instead of answering her question Rishabh captured her lips in a soft kiss. He knew very well that his wife wouldn’t mind expressing her love to him openly, just like she did the previous day in the parking lot, but he wanted to tease her, he enjoyed seeing her blush because of his words.
The kiss that they were sharing turned from a soft and passionate one to a hungry kiss, Prerna’s hormones were kicking in and she wanted more. She started dominating the kiss, much to her Husband’s surprise but Rishabh let her enjoy her dominance, unfortunately they had to break the kiss before they intended to because of a knock on their door. They both groaned as they broke apart.
Rishabh grumpily got out of the bed while Prerna tried to calm her raging hormones and sit straight on the bed. They were both mad at that person who had disturbed their moment but when Rishabh opened the door and saw their daughter standing outside their room, their annoyance vanished in seconds
‘Kukki.. aap yahan kya kar rahe ho?’
Rishabh asked his daughter as he picked her up in his arms and walked her to the bed towards her Mum. Kukki got out of Rishabh’s arms and hugged Prerna tightly, and wished her good morning. She then pointed towards the clock and Rishabh saw the time, he had to get her ready for school and that is why Kukki had come to their room to wake him up.
‘Aap ek kaam karo aap jake jaldi se fresh up hona start karo.. papa bas do minute main aapke room main aa jayenge…’
Just like an obedient child Kukki listened to her father’s words and jumped out of the bed, once she was out of their sight Rishabh shook his head and walked back to Prerna
‘Our daughter has some sense of timing..’
His words made Prerna laugh wholeheartedly, she found him too cute right now but her laughter was silenced by Rishabh as he kissed her once again, a minute later he broke the kiss
‘Good thing that she will go to school in an hour’s time and then hopefully there won’t be any other disturbance in our romance!!’
Rishabh winked at her at the end of his sentence and walked out the room before Prerna could even react to his words. But when she realised the underlined meaning, several thoughts started running in her mind. She bit her lip to control her emotions and got off the bed to get ready for the day.

Prerna was already in the kitchen waiting for her husband and daughter to come for breakfast. They were taking longer than the other days today. She thought to make the most of this opportunity and make some breakfast for them. It had been months since she had walked into this kitchen to actually cook something.
She was taking off the last paratha and turned the stove off when Anurag walked into the kitchen to fetch himself a glass of water. Suddenly, the atmosphere in the air had become awkward, ever since Anurag had questioned Prerna in the earlier months of her pregnancy their conversation was almost nil. Prerna ignored him as much as it was possible for her to do so.
Even now she was about to walk past him when she stopped in her path because of a sudden ache in her belly, an involuntary scream left her lips. Anurag who was busy filling his glass of water became alert and rushed to her immediately
‘Are you okay?’
He asked her out of concern and tried to hold her to support her but Prerna jerked his hands, instead she walked outside with the support of the furniture around them as she called her husband and Anurag just silently followed her
‘Rishabh..’
Prena clutched her stomach and almost screamed as she reached the breakfast table, she saw him literally run to her from Kukki’s room. He caught hold of her shoulder and made her sit on the nearest chair. He knelt in front of her to come to her eye level
‘What’s wrong? Are you in pain? Why were you in the kitchen Prerna… I told you not to work na…’
Rishabh started scolding her but Prerna glared at him in return
‘Stop scolding me for everything Rishabh..’
She complained and before Rishabh could yell again she yelped softly as she felt another ache in her stomach.
‘Prerna…what..’
Rishabh was about to ask what was wrong but she caught his hand and placed it on her belly, he was confused at first but in another minute he understood the reason for her yelps.
‘Baby has started kicking …’
Prerna said excitedly as she felt another kick in her stomach and bit her lip this time to control her scream, Rishabh chuckled softly as he felt their baby move but as soon as he looked at Prerna, his smile and excitement vanished
‘It must be paining right??’
He asked her softly, Prerna was touched by his concern for her, she shook her head negatively and cupped his face as she leaned closer to him
‘Not at all.. it’s a joy of motherhood Rishabh… our Baby is telling us that he is going to come home soon…’
She whispered to him and pecked him on his lips, Prerna saw her daughter run to them and quickly she placed Kukki’s hand on her belly as well.
‘Your brother is playing inside Mamma’s tummy…’
Prerna said in a baby like voice to her daughter who looked at her excitedly and gestured that she would play with him too
‘Haan baccha.. once he will come home we all will play with him..but now we have to go to school…let’s finish our breakfast quickly…’
Rishabh said and sat on the chair next to Prerna with Kukki on his lap and summoned Chandu to get their breakfast. They were so lost in their happy moment that they failed to notice Anurag’s presence in the room.

Prerna sat in her room and kept caressing her baby bump with a smile on her face till Rishabh came back home after dropping Kukki to school. As soon as Rishabh sat on the bed next to her Prerna felt another kick.
‘Seems like Baby is very happy that you are back home..’
‘Only Baby?? What about his Mum Haan??’
Rishabh said in a flirtatious tone and placed his hand gently on her belly, instead of replying to his question Prerna just bit her lower lip, using his other hand Rishabh freed her lip from her teeth and leaned into kiss her and as soon as he had captured her lips they felt the baby kick again. Rishabh immediately broke the kiss and moved back. He frowned and looked at Prerna
‘Huh… looks like our kids are not happy with us being romantic with each other… earlier it was Kukki and now it’s this one who spoiled our moment…’
Rishabh said in a serious tone and once again Prerna laughed at his words. She shook her head at his antics and wrapped her arms around his waist hugging him tightly.
‘You are too cute Rishabh..’
Her words made him pout but at the same time Rishabh was happy that he could make her laugh.
‘Just three more months and we will be holding him in our arms…’
Rishabh said in a soft voice as he placed a kiss on her forehead and continued enjoying the presence of their baby as he kept kicking Prerna after every few minutes.
