I know that Papa Roshan fudges box office numbers (as apparently everyone in BW does). For whatever reason, box office india is anti-Hrithik (or maybe anti-Roshan) and has been very consistently for many years. Relatively neutral and reliable third parties (like Indicine before retirement) have been clear that BOI is just as guilty of deflating Hrithik’s collections as Papa is of inflating them. The real collection of K3, Kaabil, and S30 lie somewhere between what BOI and Filmkraft say they are. Thank goodness YRF had the good sense to use an independent tracker or BOI would have War struggling to get to 250 Cr. LOL
Now BOI is propping up H4 and some are calling them out for it. Karma.
I think collection reporting is kind of like reviews and WOM. If people who are thinking of seeing a film hear BOI say a film is a flop on day 1 or that a film is breaking records and will be an ATBB it could absolutely influence whether they see the film. Especially in the early days of release when a good content film that opens poorly and needs time to build WOM or a not so good superstar masala film needs to sell a lot of tickets before WOM builds, trade analysts can do a lot to hurt or help a film. Those - like BOI - that abuse that power should be called out.
