See, in our family we respect elders, no matter whose parents they are but there is no concept of 'bahu has to do seva' of her in-laws. Everyone in the family does it.
Likewise, the men in my family also look after the elders in their wives' families out of respect. No compulsion.

on the same idea HS could have offered to stay back half day to take care of chachi to help babita. And Babita was like his work is more important somewhere pointing that her work & identity is not important. I understand if it was about the nature of jobs they do (like a doctor vs any career the doctors work comes first because of emergencies) but here it was not about that,
