I agree it's a disservice to the character if he just stands back and be soft. In the original I was told he was very ruthless and no nonsense. Ekta is purposely going back and forth with bajaj. Showing his grey shades but also showing reasons to justify it. During the jail sequence he was innocent and no one stood for him. His own wife said horrible things and when she found out that was another story. However audience sympathized with bajaj. Now this whole Durga pooja that is lasting for days.
