What is your definition of 'good acting'?

People are different and so are their viewpoints. So clashes are bound to happen, even while judging acting.

People think so and so is a great actor, others think they are not. Difference in opinions doesn't always make you right and the other person wrong. Just that you have a different criteria of judging a performance.

For me personally, I like the actors who act natural onscreen. They may not be versatile but if they make you feel that they are not acting, but are really living the character, then its great acting for me. Another thing is strong dialogue delivery, which is important for me. Most of the present generation actors suck in that.

How do you judge a performance? Tell your perspective.

Good acting for me, when a person is believable.

While I do appreciate when over the top film acting is done well in the context(aka Kareena in JWM, Ranveer in Padmavat, Deepika in CE, Sallu in Dabbang, Ranbir in APKJK, SRK in Bazigar/Darr and so on), but good acting IMO is something which is done in a simple yet believable manner. But when someone is believable, like one example watch Udaan and Ugly, and watch Ronit Roy, that is a top class performance, where an actor has taken few emotion(anger and insecurities) and build a brilliant character whose every move revolves around these characteristics, it is simply amazing. Or Vidya in Kahaani( vulnerablity and naiveness), Sri in EV( innocence, love lorn and self worth questioned), Kangu in Queen( innocence), Ranbir in Rockstar( pain), Shahid in Haider( insanity), Nawaz in Raman Raghav( insanity and psychopath), AB Sr in Agneepath( arrogance and vengeance) and so many others. These performance are so centered by few characteristic yet bring natural reaction happening everywhere. I think these are the things which seperates great actors with good, average and terrible actors.

And the most important thing for me is, about actors who listen. Very few actors, especially in BW know the art of listening.

As for versatility IMO is a very misunderstood word, people seem to confuse change of appearances with versatility. Hence you see somd people saying that Nawaz is not versatile, I find him supremely versatile, Faizal Khan was a remarkably different person than Gaitonde, Chand Nawab was a totally different character than Freaky Ali, Raman was a contrast of Liak, despite these all being similar genres and scenarios.

Same with Vidya, Irfan and Tabu.

When acting feels so real that I can't tell the difference between reel and real.

Also when I'm able to build a strong connect with the character and feel like their emotions are transiting through the screen.

When there's no acting, it could still be real. Take sallu as example, He isnt acting even 1℅, but it looks like as if he is acting cause he has been given the role which completely suites his real personality, LMAO

When we feel the emotions they are feeling

When the eyes speak volumes

Body language is natural and fluid

I like both dramatic acting and subtle. BUt it should connect with me.

Good Acting for me is when a actor put efforts to dive into the role perfectly. you just forget them as star and starts to relate with the character for e.g.

1) Vidya in "No one killed Jessica" - she transformed so well and captured tiny tiny nuances of body language.

2) Amitabh in Piku - He will irritate you in one moment and will make you fell for him in another.

3) Aishwarya in Raincoat (rare phenomena) - It's a masterpiece.

4) Pankaj Kapoor in Blue Umbrella. - His jealousy and vulnerability looked so real.

5) Konkana in Mr & Mrs Iyyer. Hats off

These are the ones whom I can recall in the moment

60% of good acting is good role....40% is talent

salman scores 10/40 in talene and when he gets a good role like bajrangi which is 50/60 he gets passing mark of around 60/100

shahrukh usually scores 30 to 35 and if his role connects then he can score 80+ and hence he is the top actor

aamir is scoring high on roles...50-60 and then he is 20-25 regularly on talent so he is in 75+ range

sometimes u have 30/40 in a movie like zero where role is 10/60 and then u end up as fail...and everyone thinks u did overacting ..in fact the role was not good and acting seems too much and hence comes out as over

its a complex situation...most great actors get great roles..and when its firangi malla or zero suddenly they look average..bc its the role.
