Deepika looks like any average Indian girl. Not ugly but not beautiful either. You see so many desi girls walking down the street who look similar. If you gave them proper grooming and make-up and expensive clothes, they would look glam too.
I'm just speculating but I think that's why she has a mostly female fanbase because Indian women relate to her.
