Right from the start the Maheshwari family is being made to admit to the discomforting truths about their family members by Meenakshi. Earlier fingers were pointed at Mishti’s lineage (regarding her father’s criminal record and his subsequent attempt to blackmail Rajeshwari) and now the question of Kuhu being Shaurya’s illegitimate child was raised.

At one point during her outburst that required Mishti to insult her own family members, she admits to being ‘muhboli’ (adoptive child in the family) while showing pride in atleast being a legitimate daughter of her parents whereas Kuhu, she says is, najayaz (illegitimate).

It’s ironic how the two sisters at different points in the story had to face problematic situations owing to the reality of who their respective parents were, when actually for them their adoptive family is as real and dear to them as their own family would have been. (Loved how Kuhu didn’t so much as bother about saying anything about who her biological mother was neither did she care about explaining whether or not had she ever tried to get to know about her. For her Varsha is her mother and that’s the end of it.)

It is also ironic how the well-intentioned Maheshwaris have had to bear the brunt of keeping family secrets whereas the scheming Meenakshi has conveniently got away with all her dirty secrets related to meddling with others’ lives, be it that of her own children or that of Maheshwaris.

Abir has questioned Meenakshi about her actions and decisions and has held her accountable for her immoral ways. (It would be interesting to know how as a child or an adult Abir started picking up on his mother’s manipulations and made a conscious decision to make himself distant from her. More importantly make himself different from her.)

Meenakshi’s false sense of entitlement and egoistic nature has led to innocent characters unknowingly becoming victims of her never ending machinations. Mishti has directly faced emotional and mental torture owing to Meenakshi’s blackmailing and Kuhu has been made a pawn so that Meenakshi finds herself triumphant in her self-created “game of who would be an ideal partner for whom” .

Mishti in the last episode was innocently shown musing over how she would have forewarned her sister (Kuhu) to stay cautious of her mother-in-law had she been there to help Kuhu get ready for her wedding. And again ironically, after picking up fights with Mishti for inane reasons and blaming Mishti umpteen times for being the reason of all her problems, despite of Mishti’s very public and dramatic revelation about her parents, Kuhu was not jumping the guns to murder Mishti. She in fact was taken aback and termed Mishti’s behavior as her getting fits (“Pata nahin aaj Mishti ko kaise daure pad rahe hain..”)

Kuhu has crossed the line many times in her arguments with Mishti but the way she was shocked to see Mishti’s use of words and her uncharacteristic behaviour, it was clearly indicated that she never expected Mishti to behave in such a hurtful manner. It was also indicative of the fact that (despite of not adhering to such codes of conduct herself) at least in certain ways Kuhu did have high regards for Mishti.

When I had started watching the show (which was purely out of interest in checking out the blossoming romance between Abir and Mishti) the perception I had about Kuhu or about the equation between the two sisters so to say, was that Kuhu would be a bratty, comical, dimwitted sidekick to Mishti (many of the show’s viewers I think would say that she is exactly that but I think differently) I didn’t think I would care much about Mishti’s sister let alone their sisterly bond. Hence to be intrigued about the two sisters right from the start was pleasantly surprising. I would say at the heart of Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke’s storyline is the strained yet sweet, outwardly fickle looking yet strong, relationship between the two sisters.

Mishti has had first hand experience of Meenakshi’s torturous ways, Kuhu does know that she should be wary of the MIL and yet has been blissfully unaware of the mental and emotional harassment that Meenkashi is capable of subjecting others to. A part of my heart wishes that Mishti had discouraged the relationship between Kuhu and Kunal having seen what Meenakshi is like but then again had she shared such views she would have further only been misunderstood. Moreover, Mishti was convinced that Kunal loves Kuhu and no matter what he would stand by her sister’s side. Once Abir had told her that if we two people love each other they can and should fight to no end to be together. I guess somehow Mishti believed so too, that probably Kuhu could find a better mother-in-law but would she find another person she would fall in love with?

Kunal has been the chameleon of the storyline. From showing himself to be Mr. Goody Two Shoes to be being downright insensitive and misogynistic in his approach, he has treated other characters with respect and disdain as per his own convenience. One instant he would be respectful towards Parul and call her maasi, another instant he would look at her as though she merits being nothing more than a domestic help. He would talk about how guilty he feels for cheating on his family members and Kuhu but wouldn’t show a wee bit of guilt or remorse in running away from his wedding (It looked as simple as going out for a morning routine of jogging for him when he picked up his bag to go out of the house so that he doesn’t have to marry Kuhu.)

If the marriage does happen (which I think it would) inevitably at some point the glaring truth about this marriage would & should begin to look apparent to Kuhu. I am desperately hoping she would get to know Kunal for who he is (a manipulative guy who toyed with her emotions all along and never intended to marry her in the first place) This truth holds the key for how Kunal would be perceived as by his own brother Abir and Mishti too (both of whom trusted him) More than anything else it holds the key for Kuhu to open her eyes to the murky world she has landed herself in by continuing to being in her lala land about marriage, about Kunal.

The makers here have an opportunity to not take down the lazy and simplistic route where Kuhu is reduced to a mere puppet, vulnerable and hostile, in the shadow of Meenkashi. They have the opportunity to showcase how years of upbringing can’t be so easily meddled with by treacherous people. Infact, they have the chance to berate the Rajvanshs in a bittersweetway (When the truth of Kunal being Parul’s son (something which they have heavily hinted at in the episodes so far) would be brought forth, I do not think Kuhu would want to separate from him or judge him for who his parents are. She might simply not care as she doesn’t care now that someone as archaic and authoritative as Meenakshi is going to be her mother-in-law. Kunal on the other hand, was party to the tamasha regarding Kuhu’s parentage that Meenkashi made sure Mishti creates in order to insult the Maheshwaris and to make sure that Mishti distances herself from Abir)

Truth is a beautiful and terrible thing and therefore should be treated with caution said our beloved Hogwarts Professor, Dumbledore. Another quote of his which I often use, that holds relevance is that with understanding comes acceptance and only with acceptance can there be recovery.

Terrible truths await to be discovered by Mishti, Abir and Kuhu.

even i have hopes with Kuhu and Mishti's track and especially Kuhu growing up and understanding what she wanted and what she did get in all of her chase of happiness....

Kuhu subconsciously does know that Mishti had fits, she wouldn't say things like that and did miss her. I do think somehow Kuhu had seen firsthand Meenu's behavior towards Mishti , she would have supported her too...

all the ugliness was done in her absence.

That's such a great point tho, apparently the fact that Kunal had been engaged before was not considered as a truth important enough to be told to Maheshwaris by Meenakshi (when this is actually something that any person about to marry should be knowing about their partner to be) and yet she created a scene out of whether or not Kuhu is a legitimate child of her parents.

Once it is learnt that Kunal was not her son, she would prove herself to be so hypocritical to raise questions about others' parentage.

She is very confident that nobody will ever know about this secret, maybe because only 3 people are aware of it, including herself. Neither Nanu nor Parul would ever do that and that is what gives her this confidence to go around and throw allegations at everyone.

Their bonding indeed has been sweet to watch smiley27For two sisters who more often than not have only been fighting with each other, it sounds far from believable when they say they hate each other.

Everytime they get together as a team (even if it's only for a fleeting moment) it fills me with hope about their relationship.

I know right! Every time Kuhu supports Mishti or Mishti supports Kuhu, it makes me so happy. I was watching episode 80-81 today and turns out, Kuhu genuinely believes Mishti doesn't like her? She knows Mishti cares, she even says, "Kabhi kabhi lagta hai tu meri genuinely care karti hai" or something. So really, these two are basically an ITV couple, assuming the other's feelings for them and their ego not letting them accept that there is love.

She did not, not even once, acknowledge that she was actually wrong in the scenario. Similarly when Ved's truth came out. She constantly kept putting the blame on Mishti, even in her conversations with her own self.

I honestly didn't get the head or tail of why Mishti was being blamed by Meenakshi for what Ved did smiley5 Even when Mishti saved Abir's life Meenakshi didn't show any great deal of thankfulness. Just coz Meenakshi is a negative character shouldn't mean that her actions can have no rhyme or reason. If they give a solid reason for why Meenakshi does the things she does, probably the audience would be able to understand where she is coming from. Simply saying Mishti and Kuhu would tear the family apart sounds like a very very lame and rediculous reason.

Exactly. I usually enjoy a show, majorly depending if the antagonist is good. I don't want them to be righteous, that would make no sense but they should at least have a valid motivation to do what they do. Meenakshi could have been a very strong character had they given me one reason why she actually thought Mishti was to be blamed. She saved Ketaki and all Meenakshi could care about was Nidhi calling her out for forcing and emotionally blackmailing them into the marriage. Definitely does not make sense to me -.-

He constantly battles for all of them, all by himself.

So true. Abir actually takes a stand for any person who he feels is being wronged. It could be his brother, his sister or Mishti or Kuhu.

I somehow wish he had been able to make out that it must have been Meenakshi who would have pushed Mishti to create a scene on the haldi day. He is after all one of the persons who is aware that his mother is capable of doing such things.

Yes, I truly did wish. In fact, a part of me was convinced he had somehow iverheard a conversation between Mishti and his mother and was only delaying help because he wanted Mishti to come to him. I think he can't believe it mainly because of that police fiasco. Can't seem to take it out of my mind. How can he question her when he has once been proven wrong? She is, after all, his mother and he loves her, despite everything. Like Mishti said, polar bears leave their mother in a year, orangutans take 8 but Indian boys are forever stuck with their moms😆

Parul has thankfully begun to break free from the shackles that stopped her from saying or doing anything against Meenakshi.

I have also been surprised to see that she has constantly supported Kuhu. She always calls Kuhu "ek acchi ladki" even though the two of them have never had an interaction. She has been firmly in support of Kunal and Kuhu's marriage too. Wonder if that is simply because in comparison to Shweta or Mishti, she feels Kuhu is more suited to be Kunal's life partner.

Am really looking forward to see how Parul and Kuhu's 'relationship' shapes up (If it shapes up at all that is smiley5) I wouldn't wanna see Kuhu disrespecting Parul like the way Kunal does smiley18 That would be too heartbreaking. I wish she gives Parul reasons to smile instead.

Parul is (finally!) realising that Meenakshi, even after everything she's done for the family, has become paranoid and cannot think straight. Also the fact that Meenakshi keeps referring to Kunal as "mera beta" whenever she is in conversation with Parul. She constantly demeans Parul's importance and I am glad Parul is beginning to see it.

I think she supports Kuhu because Kunal pretended that he loved her and that's what Parul truly wants? Plus he wasn't thinking if Shweta despite her being around and at that very point Meenakshi became really rude to her so a part of Parul decided to see to herself that her son was happy? He was, according to her, happy with Kuhu and so she likes Kuhu?

She also had thought that Mishti was a nice person and that Meenakshi was wrong with her perception of the girl but Meenu was so paranoid and kept talking about Mishti breaking the family and for Parul, the family is really important. They do keep Kunal happy, after all.

Maybe when Parul realises that Kunal doesn't love Kuhu and had been using her, Parul will start feeling guilty of his wrongdoings and silently support Kuhu. Maybe scenes where Kuhu is sad with everything around her and Parul becomes the shoulder she cries on? They'll definitely make Kuhu and Parul bond because this is after all a show about relationships based on love? And the fact that an ideal female will be very supportive of her husband's mother, especially if he is against her :P

Mishti has done everything with the idea that Kunal loves Kuhu and when she does get to know he doesn't, we are in for a very late realization. It is adorable that she would go to such lengths to unite Kuhu and Kunal but in the end, things are going to go south very quick.

True. How would she feel on knowing that she put herself and her family to great test, all for a relationship which wasn't worth it after all. I feel Mishti somewhere got carried away by looking at Kuhu's craziness for Kunal. She didn't really get the time or opportunity to guage whether Kunal is truly in love with her sister or not.

I wish as a brother Abir had been able to read his brother better. Then again the poor chap ain't no mind reader. How could he have known Kunal is also keeping a chehre par chehra...smiley12

Abir also is slightly at fault here. Before Meenu and Munna began with their plan, Abir was convinced that Kunal liked Kuhu, that there was a possibility of love. Maybe it was because he genuinely thought his Nanko liked Kuhu but there is also a possibility that he was only hoping for them to get together so that his and Mishti's love story could run a smoother road? It is endearing that Abir will do everything and fight everyone for his love but maybe if he hadn't been so sure... Of course there is the possibilty, they are supposed to be the parallel leads but Abir has been so desperate to get Kunal married, he is convinced a happy wife and relationship will bring him his Nanko back that he hasn't stopped to think if Kunal just might not be ready for a relationship? Maybe Kunal could have had a friend and maybe they could have also grown like Mishti and Abir themselves instead of rushing them into it.

And then Mishti. Of course she has seen Kuhu's craziness for Kunal. Kuhu's attraction is valid but the love that she feels? She has created an image of Kuhu-perfect Kunal who leaves meetings for her, and things that she cannot see that maybe, just maybe there is more to it?

Even though I want it, I am not ready for Abir to realise that Kunal played with somebody's feelings because he felt Abir's love for Mishti was a manipulation. Kunal has very conveniently let himself think that he is the reason Abir and Mishti met. Uh hello, they sort of had quite a couple concersations before you even knew her?

Actually when Kunal arrives at Maheshwari house in a drunk state with the intention of telling Kuhu the truth, I actually thought he was being genuine. It was honestly quite adorable the way Kuhu was trying to handle him patiently and he was trying to tell the truth but was not able to do so. Those are probably the only scenes of KuKu which I liked so much.

Too bad the next day itself Kunal went back to acting like a jerk. He showed zero remorse for how a public spectacle was made out of the question of who Kuhu's actual Mom is. Sole repreive was that he showed some sort of concern for Abir.

He was genuine then. Ever since they began with this stupid Abir extraction plan, Kunal felt guilty of involving Kuhu in this drama. When he was drunk he was good and I could see the Kunal I wish to see. He wants to do right by her because he likes her but he is so devoted to his mother, he cannot even stop for a second. Every time he says "I am doing all of this for my brother, to protect him", I can't help but think, he may not be Meenakshi's son by blood but she has brought him up with a thinking exactly like hers.

Him aiding the humiliation was so terrible. What was Meenakshi's justification for unnecessarily calling the media? They wanted to prove to Abir that Mishti is a terrible person but can Kunal not see? His mom is more focused on Vishambhar saying that her ego was shattered when Abir took Mishti's help. That she is doing all of this because she couldn't bear to have her younger son rejected and then have her elder son seek help from the same girl.

When he was worried for Abir and said that to Meenakshi, maybe he could stop. For once and just ask Abir what was it? Abir always wanted to tell Kunal about his feelings for Mishti and it is because he thought Kunal wasn't ready that he didn't. We can see why. Kunal is too blinded by the rejection to see that as bad as Mishti and he were, Abir and Mishti truly understand each other.

In this episode I watched, he says "Mishti is using Bhai like she used me" and I couldn't help but wonder... When sid she use you Kunal? For courtship? Where you out in ZERO efforts except asking your brother for help?

These make me dislike him so much but then, like you said, moments like when he was upset that Abir was upset, his drunk self wanting to tell Kuhu everything, I want him to grow out of this anti-Mishti bubble. He needs to learn to move past the rejection.

And this gets me to my fear of what will happen. Kuhu will begin to resent Mishti because Mishti is, after all, the reason Kunal ever played with her emotions.

Ikr, I have had that fear too. That Kuhu will start resenting Mishti all the more on learning the truth. I wish for once her perspective changes. Mishti was only doing everything for her happiness after all.

As for Kunal, one of my friends who also watches the show had once told me that she wishes Kuhu makes Kunal go through hell. He deserves a taste of his medicine.

I do want her to be her mature self then. She has the emotional maturity that she hides under all that drama mostly because that is how she thinks her family likes her or something?

Oh I would love it if Kuhu decided to exact revenge. She has the fire and maybe she could aid Mishti and Abir getting together, even if it is only to spite Kunal? (At least that's what she'll tell herself but we know she would want Abir, her best friend, and Mishti, the one person who cares for her so much even after all their fights, to get together since they love each other so much.) She could be childish and take this form of revenge as well :P

But this is all after she confronts him and uses all his guilt to make him feel terrible. I am sure Kunal deserves at least that much.

Other than that, Mishti and Abir are such a relief to watch, so poigant. I can hardly think of anything I specifically want to see them develop into

They are beautiful, endearing and they simply make my heart flutter. They are gorgeously and effortlessly sensous too in their own way ;)

I know right! They can literally do all types of romance. They have the friends-to-lovers vibe, the nok-jhok and whenever they look at each other, when Mishti pushes him against the wall or they hug each other or when he imagines her dancing in a music video with him. It all makes them so beautiful, along with their quirks of balloons and the 3 questions. They are simply beautiful and heart-warming.

I actually thought that by the end of the current wedding drama Mishti and Abir would get married too but since that has not happened it would be interesting to see how and when they get married.

Abir getting along with Badi Maa and Bade Papa and going on to become like a son to them would mean so much to Mishti smiley27 That would be absolutely #familygoals smiley27

Yes, even I was halfway convinced that they'll be married and Kuhu and Mishti will be back under the same roof again.

I guess they'll have a proper wedding with all the functions, the families involved, happy dances or something? Fingers crossed that they do. We do deserve that. I would also not mind an impulsive decision to get married just because Meenakshi has gone way beyond their understanding😆

Abir's bond with both Badi Maa and Bade Papa is so beautiful. Every time she gives him her blessings and he is convinced things will go right for him or the fact that Vishambhar trusts him more than he trusts his actual damaad (for now :P) is so good. I am so glad the writers decided to make Vishambhar and Rajshri so endearing and understanding along with being supportive of each one of Mishti's decisions. I can't wait to see how they react when they come to know that Mishti has chosen their favourite Rajvansh for herself

Also, I am so flad to have these discussions. Finally not procrastinating and putting my thoughts out here ❤️

Oh am really not sure how Kuhu would have reacted on learning that Mishti was being blackmailed by Meenakshi. Kuhu has always found ways to blame Mishti for everything. It would definitely be nice to see her directing anger at Meenakshi and Kunal instead.

I am hoping for a good Mishti - Kuhu scene during Kuhu's bidaai.

@red Omghhh that's just epicness 😆 Truly love the way Vishambhar trusts Abir and finds him responsible 😳 Also all of Badi Maa and Abir scenes have been so endearing ❤️ It feels like the motherly love and affection he couldn't get from Meenakshi, he finds it with Badi Maa. Mishti would be elated to see them bonding.

Vishambhar holds him in high regards and that in itself is a green signal for Abir. Right! She is so sweet to him with all the teasing and doting and affection. Now that I think of it, Meenakshi's next target will be Badi Maa for trying to replace her :/ Can't wait for Mishti to also be teased with him😆
