Movie theater memories

Just a light-hearted topic sharing cinema memories. What is the first movie you remember seeing in theaters? Or just any fond memories and anecdotes relating to movies on the big screen?

My first movie in theaters was actually a Marathi movie called Thartharat. Our next-door neighbors were a Maharashtrian family. I was good friends with their daughter. They invited me to watch a movie with them in the theater. I spent a lot of time with their family when my sister was little. Looking back I think it was the neighborly way of giving my mom a break by taking on one kid. I saw a few more Marathi films with them and developed a fondness for Laxmikant Berde (RIP) and Ashok Saraf. I was very thrilled when they appeared in mainstream movies.

The first movie i watched in theater was HAHK. I was a kid back then and slept between the scenes but my aunt, who was a teenager back then was gushing over Sallu and Madz chemistry and just to copy her I started fangirling over them too.

Another very memorable movie-going experience was Rangeela. My grandmother had a bff in their building complex. She was several years older, but they had a lot in common. They were both Konkani speakers from the same region of Karnataka, both married off young to men in the city. And one thing they had in common was they loved watching movies. They would often go watch movies together at Aurora Talkies. And I being the cool kid that I was would often join them on their movie adventures during weekends and holidays.

I booked tickets for us to go watch Rangeela one Friday night at Plaza Cinema. My family has always been quite cool and progressive. But my grandma's bff was a hardcore conservative. She was so scandalized by Urmila's outfits and songs like Tanha Tanha and Hai Rama. Throughout the movie my grandma's bff muttered and grumbled providing us with a running commentary in Konkani of everything wrong with the movie and my grandma tried to convince her to let it go and enjoy the movie. Fun times!

I watched anaconda. I was so afraid after that I became so quiet. I don't remember though.

First hindi movie was ghulam. I don't remember but my cousin says I was running inside the theater and when aamir khan was getting all beaten up with so much blood all around I was asking if he was gonna die.

My first movie in theater was Awara Pagal Deewana (Don't ask why,lol) Only memory from that day was wanting to leave the theater and get back home asap.

Other than that, a somewhat similar memory to yours, our neighbour once had an extra ticket for Koi Mil Gaya so they invited me to come with them. That was like a pleasant surprise for me. 👍🏼

I ran away from theatre when an egg cracked in a jurassic park movie. I ran. I didn't walk away. I ran from the cinema hall ( a bhari sabha that day). My dad said i brought embarrassment for our entire clan.

Sigh.
