First Day Chaos

Taani and Rey are sleeping peacefully…The cushions which were between them serving as border were tousled on the ground…The flower curtain is lying messily on one side and the candles have stopped burning…Sun rays peeps through the window and fall directly on Rey’s face…Rey groans in his sleep and turns around and tries to sleep again but is unable to…Frustrated that he forgot to shut his curtains he gets up and goes to get freshen up…He comes out of his washroom and sees Taani sleeping with a frown on her face…He notices the sun rays are disturbing Taani’s sleep and shuts the curtain leaving the room blanketed in darkness…He looks at the wall clock and notices its 7 am and he is late for his morning run…Cursing that he is late today he wears his shoes and goes for running…After returning he sees his grandfather in living room doing something on his tab…His father is sitting beside him reading newspaper…His brother is on dining table and requesting Purvi to drink some milk while she keeps making weird faces…Purvi notices Rey and asks him

“Rey kaha se aa rahe ho??”

“Bas apni morning run se”

“Accha…Mujhe to laga aaj der tak sone wale ho tum” and winks at Rey

“Waise Rey Taani kaha hai?” Rey looks confused for a moment and suddenly remembers that Taani was sleeping when he went for his daily run

“Bhabhi vo shayad so rahi hogi…Kal bahut exhaust hui thi na…Main jab subah nikla tab tak to so rahi thi” All starts laughing and Rey understands the meaning behind their laugh and awkwardly smiles at them and leaves the room making a reason that he needs to wake Taani and also to save himself from further embarrassment…He enters his room and sees that Taani is still sleeping…

“Taani…Subah ho gayi hai uth jao”

“Mmm…Sone do na papa…Bas 5 minutes” replies Taani in her sleep

“Taani main tumhara papa nahi hoon….Utho bhi ab…Dekho 8:30 baj gaye”

“Offo bhai 8:30 hi to bajehai…Aap jaante ho na meri subah 10 se pehle nahi hoti” after hearing her answer Rey’s eyes widen as he is an early riser…

“Taani I’m not your father nor Swayam so uth jao warna”

“Warna kya?” Hearing the challenge in her tone he goes towards the bed picks up the glass that is onside table and is about to dump it on her but has second thoughts and just sprinkles some water on her face…He tries is for 2-3 times and when that doesn’t work he closes his eyes n dumps all the water on her making her jump off the bed…

“Ye kya tareeka hua kisiko uthane ka??” says Taani in an angry voice…

“Sorry sorry sorry par main aur kya karta tum uth bhi to nahi rahi thi…Its already 8:45 aur sab tumhe neeche bula rahe hai isiliye as last option maine ye kiya” answers Rey guiltily…Taani looks around and realises that she is not in her room nor in her house…She is now married and is at her husband’s home…

“What??8:45??Aapko mujhe pehle uthana chahiye tha na…Ab sab mere baare mein kya soch rahe honge ki nayi bahu aur 9 baj gaye aur abhi tak so rahi hai…Ufff” muttering this angrily she goes into washroom leaving Rey stunned…

“Oh god!!!Ye ladki khud paagal hai aur mujhe bhi kar degi…Itni der se utha raha tha tab nahi uthi aur jab uthi tab aise toofani express jaise baat karke nahane chali bhi gayi…Save me God!!”

Saying this Rey goes towards his closet and remove his clothes for the day…Here Taani comes out of washroom in a saree and goes and stand in front of dressing table’s mirror and starts drying her hair…Rey turns around and gets lost…While drying her hair few droplets of water gets sprinkled on Rey’s face…He comes out of his trance,shakes his head with a sad smile and goes to take a much needed shower…After drying her hair she combs her hair and does light makeup…She then wears earrings,bangles,mangalsutra which she removed last night before sleeping and applies sindoor…Finally done getting ready she turns in haste to go downstairs…Here Rey comes out of washroom and is drying his hair with towel…Nor Rey neither Taani see each other and they clash making Taani loose her balance…Rey quickly slides his arm around her waist and Taani clutches his vest in her fists and closes her eyes tightly in fear of falling…And at the same time their room’s door open

“Rey…Taani…Chalo ab neeche” Purvi says while coming inside…She notices their position and her mouth open in O…Hearing her Taani n Rey turns towards the sound…

“Sahi kehte hai log…Newly weds ke room mein knock karke jaana chahiye…” teases Purvi when she watches on with amusement that neither Rey has left Taani nor Taani has left Rey…It seems both are unaware of their position…

“Purvi…Kitni baar kahu tumse aise stairs pe baar baar chadhna utarna theek nahi tumhari iss halat mein” Says Arjun angrily coming into the room…He looks where Purvi is staring and he also gets shocked…Watching the expression on Arjun’s face both Taani n Rey realises their position and straightens themselves quickly…Arjun and Purvi looks teasingly at them winks at Rey and leaves the room saying “Jaldi neeche aana”

“Neeche chale??” Asks Rey awkwardly…

“Haan” Replies Taani with equal awkwardness…

Both comes downstairs…Taani is feeling guilty and is looking down that on her first day itself she is late…When they reach downstairs they go towards living room where everyone is sitting and chatting…Everyone senses Taani and Rey’s presence and look towards them…Taani moves forward and takes blessings from her mother and father in law and also from grandfather in law…

“Ye kya bahu…Tumhara sir dhaka hua kyun nahi??” Says Krishnaraj in anger…Taani gets scared and takes her saree pallu on her head…Everyone is shocked with this behaviour of grandfather Krishnaraj and stares at him with wide eyes…

“Sab mujhe aise kyun ghur rahe ho??Kya maine kuch galat kaha??”

“Nahi Dadaji…Galti meri hai…Mujhe pata nahi tha…Fir se aisa nahi hoga..” Replies Taani guiltily in a small voice…Suddenly all hear the booming laugh of Krishnaraj and all smiles in understanding but Taani is confused…

“Hey bhagwan!!!Kitni innocent bahu mili hai mujhe…Mere prank se itna darr gayi” He continues laughing…Soon everyone joins him as they know of his jovial nature and understand that he did all this to ease Taani’s nervousness…Taani is staring at him in astonishment

“Kya daadu aapne to Taani ko dara hi diya” says Arjun while laughing

“Haan aur hum sab shock ho gaye ki hamare cool aur mod daadu itne old school kabse ban gaye” Purvi continues laughing

“Ok ok ab sab bas karo…Meri bahu ko ab tang mat karo tum sab” Rajnish sternly announces though one can see smile on his face…Taani smiles and feels a bit more comfortable looking at her new family

“Taani beta chalo tum aur Rey ab breakfast kar lo waise hi bahut late ho gaya hai” her mother in law tells her

“I’m sorry…Mujhe jaldi uthneki aadat nahi hai…Kal se main pakka try karungi…Aaj ke liye mujhe maaf kar dijiye” Taani says cutely while holding her ears

“Its ok beta…Waise bhi tumhare iss shaitan pati ne hame bata diya tha ki kal tum bahut thak gayi thi” Krishnaraj tells her with a smile…Taani smiles back and breaths out a sigh of relief…Taani and Rey then have their breakfast and join others in living room…

“Maa aaj khane mein kya banega??” Purvi asks Avantika

“Aaj sab Taani ke pasand ka banao beta” Hearing this tears prick Taani’s eyes feeling the love of her in laws

“Taani…Aaj tumhe kuch meetha banana padega…Pehli rasoi ki rasam bhi to karni hai” Avantika tells her…Taani gulps hearing it and mutters to herself

“Chal beta Taani…Daant khaneke liye tayaar ho jaa…Ek to tu subah itni der se uthi,breakfast banana to chod serve karne mein bhi koi help nahi ki,uske baad aaram se naashta karke baith gayi ye nahi ki koi kaam puch le…Aur ab to khana banana hai…Vo bhi desert…Main aaj maru ya nahi ye sab mere haat ka khana khake jaroor mar jayenge…Ab kis muh se bolu ki mujhe khana banana bilkul nahi pasand…Nahi pasand vo to baad ki baat hai tujhe to khana banana bhi nahi ata…Yaad hai na pichli baar jab tune khana banaya tha tab mumma aur Bhabhi ne to saaf mana kar diya par jab bhai aur paapa ne khaya to unhe food poisoning ho gayi…Krishnaji plz bacha lena iss nanhi si jaan ko”

“Are Taani…Beta kaha kho gayi??” Avantika asks when she notices Taani’s lost expression

“Jaroor kya banaye ye soch rahi hogi” Purvi answers for Taani…When Taani hears this she comes of her trance and gives them a forced smile…Both Avantika and Purvi think its her hesitation and nervousness of new house,relations and responsibilities…They both accompany Taani to the kitchen and asks whether she decided what she wants to prepare…

“Gajar Halwa” Taani replies remembering her favourite dessert…She remembers many times her mother and Bhabhi prepared it for her and smiles thinking she can do it…Here both Purvi and Avantika are happy coz Gajar Halwa is Singhania’s favourite dessert…

“Taani jab tak hum baaki ka khana bana lete hai ye coffee Rey ko de do” suggests Avantika so that Taani and Rey can spend some time together…

“Ok Maa”

Taani takes the coffee mug and leaves from there to her room…Here Rey is sitting in terrace which is attached to his room and checking his mails on his laptop and replying to them…

“Reyansh aapki coffee” Taani forwards the mug to Rey and he takes it from her hand and thanks her…She turns to leave when

“Taani…Baitho kuch baat karni hai” Taani goes and sits on the opposite chair…

“Tumne kuch socha ki hame kaha jaana chahiye honeymoon ke liye?”

“Nahi Reyansh…Aapke dimag mein koi jagah hai to bata dijiye..Hum waha jayenge”

“Well main soch raha tha ki kyun na hum Dehradun jaaye?I have a client there so I can arrange a meeting and both can be achieved by this” Taani freezes when she hears Dehradun…She gets lost in her own thoughts…Rey looks at her and clicks his fingers infront of her

“Taani you ok?”

“Haan..Main theek hoon…Jaisa aapko theek lage…Jayenge hum Dehradun”

“Ok then…Jab maa puchegi tab hum bata denge unhe” He says and gets busy in his work…Here Taani is lost in her own thoughts…After sometime she hears her name being called from downstairs and tells Rey that she has to cook Gajar Halwa as per ritual and leaves…Rey looks up at her and thinks

“Don’t think maine tum mein jo change aaya vo notice nahi kiya…Its just that I didn’t wanted to make you uncomfortable but jo bhi baat hai vo main jaanke hi rahunga”

Here Taani comes to kitchen and inhales the smell of delicacies prepared by Avantika and Purvi…

“Kitni acchi khusbu aa rahihai…Kya kya bana hai??”

“Paneer ki sabzi,Roti,DalTadka,Jeera Rice,Pineapple raita aur Sev Puri” Taani’s eyes keeps widening when she hears that they all are her favourite dishes and her mouth starts watering…

“Yummm” she unconsciously moans cause of the delicious aromas that she is inhaling…Avantika and Purvi just laughs at her childlike nature…

“Maa,Bhabhi aap dono ko kaise pata ki ye sab meri favourite dishes hai??” Taani asks confused by the fact that her in laws already know about her favourite food

“Maine Sharon ko call karke puch liya tha” answers Purvi

“Accha chalo beta hum dono ye saari dishes bahar rakhte hai aur Purvi tum chup chap jaake aaram karogi…Maine pehle bhi kaha tha but you insisted that u also wanted to prepare something for Taani to maine permission de di…Lekin ab no ifs and buts…Chalo jao…Ye main karlungi” Avantika sternly states to Purvi…Purvi pouts but listens to her and goes to her room…Taani helps Avantika to keep all the dishes on dining table…

“Taani…Maine sare ingredients nikal ke rakhe hai kitchen platform pe so that it will be easier for u to prepare Halwa…Chalo aao main bhi tumhari help kar deti hoon”

Hearing this Taani gets shocked and mutters to herself “Taani aaj to tu mar hi gayi…Bhabhi ya fir mumaa se puch ke bana deti par agar maa yahi rahengi to kaise” Then she tells to Avantika

“Nahi maa aap jaake rest kijiye…Aapne aur Bhabhi ne sab bana diya…Ab dessert hi baaki hai vo main banadungi” Avantika smiles at Taani and goes to her room…

Taani calls her mother

“Mumma”

“Haan beta bolo..Kaisi ho??”

“Main theek hoon..Aap kaisiho??Aap sab ko bahut miss kar rahi hoon”

“Main bhi theek hoon…We are also missing you beta..Accha sun main tumhe baad mein phone karti hoon abhi main office aayi hoon tere papa ke saath meeting hai abhi” saying this she disconnects the call…

“Ohho mumma ko bhi abhi busy hona tha ab kise puchu??Haan bhabhi ko call karti hoon” She calls Sharon

“Hi Bhabhi..Kaise ho aap?

“Main theek hoon Taani..Tum batao kaisi ho??Waha pe sab kaise hai??”

“Sab theek hai Bhabhi..Actually nahi kuch theek nahi hai”

“Kyu??Kya hua??”

“Vo Bhabhi aaj meri pehli rasoi ki rasam hai aur maa ne mujhse pucha ki main kya banane wali hoon aur maine gajar ka halwa bol diya” Taani pouts

“Haan theek ha…Wait…What???Tu pagal hai??Yaad hai na last time tere haat ka khana khake bichare Swayam aur papa ki kya halat hui thi…Tu bhool sakti hai par hum nahi”

“Bhabhi I know but please please please please help karo na iss bichari nanhi si jaan ki”

“Oh hello…Tu koi bichari vichari nahi hai…Bichare to tere sasural wale hai jinhe tere haat ka khana khane pad raha hai”

“Bhabhi jitni chahe taang khich lo par please madad kar do meri” Taani hears Swayam’s voice

“Sharon kisse baatein kar rahi ho??”

“Taani se vo aaj uski pehli rasoi ki rasam hai” Swayam gulps hard and takes the phone from Sharon and keeps it on speaker

“Taani…Baccha tu kyun unke jaan ki dushman bani padi hai??Pehle hi din impression kharab karna hai kya??Kharab tak to theek hai par tere haat ka khana khake kya hoga bhagwan hi jaane…Yaad hai na last time mujhe aur papa ko food poisoning hui thi??Aur ek baar papa ne tujhe masala chai banane kaha to tune chai ka masala nahi garam masala daalke chai banai thi” Saying this both SwaRon bursts out laughing

“Kya bhai…Mujhe to laga aap to meri madad karoge…Aur Bhabhi gadbad to pehle se ho gayi”

“Kyun??Aisa kya kiya tune??Waha jaate hi gadbad karna shuru kar diya??”

“Vo aaj mujhe uthne mein thoda late hua…Reyansh ne mujhe 9 baje uthaya”

“What??Shaadi ke baad pehlehi din tu 9 baje uthi??Kisine kuch kaha??Dekh Taani galti hui hai na to daanta hoga to bhi sun lena aur sorry bol dena”

“Are bhai bhai bhai wohi to…Kisine nahi daanta…Yaha pe sab bahut acche hai…Aur mujhe bhi sirf dessert banane bola hai…Pura khana Maa aur Purvi Bhabhi ne bana liya aur to aur saari meri favourite dishes” Swayam smiles relieved thinking that Taani has got the perfect family who will love her and take care of her…

“Ab vo sab chodo na…Bhabhi help karo plzzz”

“Accha theek hai chal maine tujhe recipe mail kar di hai..Aur please kuch gadbad mat karna haan”

“Haan bhabhi…Accha mail mila mujhe…Bye” Taani disconnects the call…She then opens the mail and reads the recipe and her eyes widen

“Itna sab!!Khane mein to bas 5 minutes lagte hai aur banane mein…Krishnaji!!Bacha lena aaj mujhe…Chal beta Taani shuru ho jaa” Taani gives herself a pep talk and start working…She washes the carrots,peels them and starts grating them…

“Huff…Kitna mushkil hai ye sab…Main to itne mein hi bor ho gayi.” She continues with her work and after sometime of hard work and sweat the dish gets prepared…She is about to taste it but just then her phone rings…She answers the phone

“Haan mumma” Saying this she leaves the kitchen…After talking with her mother she returns to the kitchen and she remembers she hasn’t tasted the halwa yet so she again takes the spoon and is about to take the bite when

“Are Taani use taste mat karo..Pehla nivaala to daadu hi lenge” Purvi informs her while entering the kitchen…Purvi’s eyes widen in horror looking at the condition of the kitchen…Taani looks where Purvi is looking and curses herself for not cleaning it…Sugar,milk,dryfruit peels can be seen on kitchen platform…Few carrot peels are on platform while few others are on floor…

“Purvi Bhabhi aap tension matlo…Abhi saaf kar deti hoon” Taani hurriedly cleans everything…Purvi takes the dessert outside and keeps it in dining room and calls everyone for lunch…Everyone comes from their respective rooms and takes their seats on dining table…

“Chalo Purvi tum bhi baitho main serve karti hoon…Kitni baar kaha hai ki iss halat mein wakt pe khana khana chahiye” Avantika orders Purvi…Purvi also takes her seat looking at the stern look on her mother in law’s face

“Maa aap bhi baith jaiye…Main serve karti hoon sabko”

“Are nahi tum akeli baithogi..Nahi beta…Main rukti hoon tumhare saath”

“Ek kaam karo sabko serve karo aur sab beech mein rakha hai to hum serve karke le lenge” Announces grandpa Singhania…Avantika and Taani serves everyone food and they also take their place and start having food

“Yummm” Everyone looks up to see Taani having her food and enjoying it with closed eyes…All just shake their head at her and continue with their food

“Mmmm…Maa bhabhi kya khana banaya hai aapne…Bahut bahut bahut tasty hai..U know main na foodie hoon aur mujhe khana bahut pasand hai aur ye sab to mera favourite hai” All smiles at her

“Are waah ye to bahut acchi baat hai…Chalo ab khana khatam karo” Avantika tells her

“Taani tumhara Paneer to khatam ho gaya…Wait I’ll serve” Saying so Arjun serves her Paneer…It reminds Taani of her own brother and she smiles big at Arjun and Arjun also passes her a smile

“She is such a kid” muses Rey to himself and smiles looking at her enjoying her food giving a damn about world…

“Taani maine Rey se kuch dino pehle pucha tha usne kaha ek baar tumse baat karloon to main ye keh rahi thi ki tum apne honeymoon pe kaha jaana chahti ho??” Avantika asks Taani…Taani not expecting this question in front of everyone and now of all times chokes on her food bite…She takes her glass of water and drinks few sips…

“Maa vo humne…I mean maine aur Reyansh ne..Vo”

“Maa hum Dehradun jaana chahte hai…Humne decide kar liya hai” Rey cuts her in between and answers his mother much to Taani’s relief…

“Are Dehradun kyun??Kahi aur chale jao…Out of India??” questions Rajnish

“Are papa samjha karo…Dehradun hill station hai…Thand hoti hai vaha” Says Purvi cheekily…Hearing her everyone starts laughing loudly while Rey and Taani are feeling awkward and smile awkwardly towards all…Everyone finishes their food in the same manner laughing,talking and teasing each other and moves to living room…

“Chalo ab dessert time…Taani kya banaya hai tumne??” asks Rajish to Taani

“Papa isne gajar ka halwa banaya hai” answers Purvi excitedly

“Are waah…Do u know ki ye hum sab ka favourite dessert hai??” Krishnaraj asks her excitedly…Taani smiles nervously…She hasn’t even tasted how it is…It doesn’t matter as she has an inkling what is about to happen…

Just loved the teasing throughout the chapter from ArVi catching them in their room to Dadu pulling a prank on her😆

Taani is completely me while getting up, but I swear mere upar kisine aise paani daala, I swear that'll be the last thing he ever does!
But yeah if he apologises the way Rey did, I don't mind waking up like that every morning🤪

Oho, so madam can cause food poisoning when she cooks. I'm praying for the Singhania's right now!
Her frustration while cooking was too adorable.

Also, what is with Dehradun? And I'm still not over the jaldbazi wali shaadi? Is there a past? Wait, stupid question. There is a past! What is it?
