Part 1 :

( Not proof-read )

"Welcome to the wonderful world of jealousy, he thought. For the price of admission, you get a splitting headache, a nearly irresistable urge to commit murder, and an inferiority complex."
― J.R. Ward.

"Come on, Drishti bhabhi. Think about something else."

Drishti was in her room folding her clothes and her brother in law was pestering her. Again. She smiled to herself.

" Shikhar. I told you not to call me bhabhi. You can call be Drishti only. It is fine."

Even before both their respective weddings, she had felt at ease with him, and before being her husband's brother and her sister's husband, he was her friend.

"Okay fine. I will call you Drishti. Happy? Anyway you leave all this. Help me! How do I make her talk to me again? She barely looks at me now, and when she does, it is clearly visible she wants to murder me." Shikhar said in a sad tone.

Drishti turned around to look at him and could tell, with a look at his face, that he was in a miserable state. She thought about how they had gotten married and why they were in this situation. She had wanted her sister to be safe and had gotten in the scheme of swapping the brides and since then everything had been wrong in their life. The only positive side she found in this situation was that she was finally reunited with her long lost sister.

"Shikhar, just give her time and she will come around. You know how she is. Her anger will come to subdue. And also, her anger is totally justified. You've not been honest with us. Until recently, you've been against us. You even put our lives in danger!"

"I said I am sorry for it. I was helpless too." Shikhar replied guiltily.

"I am not saying this to make you feel bad. I just want you to realize why she is angry and why it is justified. Right now, she will doubt everything you do or say, and it is totally normal. The way we got married, has been wrong to start with and we will never be able to change that. Divi understood my position because she came to know I am her sister and she now knows why I did so. But your brother? He is also angry with me na? He is always asking why I married him instead of you. Everytime he catches us together, his insecurities will kick in. Mahima ma'am you know how angry she is with me, just by her way of talking or not talking to me. Sometimes just saying sorry is not enough. We need to give them time to process everything. And you, you were involved with our worst enemy. So she must be asking herself if you have really changed or it is just a drama from you. I will talk with her again to tell her I trust you now. And I hope you won't make it regret this."

"I know you are right Drishti. But this is unbearable. I just want things to be somehow normal between us again. She was angry before also, but she'd atleast be civilised with me. But yes I will give her the time and space she needs. As for bhai, he may have been angry with you at one point but I am sure he's glad he married you. He will not acknowledge it for sure but I know him. Seriously yaar ! Have you seen the glares he gives me everytime he catches us together? It is like he wants to kill me with his bare hands for talking to his dear wife!" Shikhar said with a laugh.

"Shut up!" Drishti said, smacking him playfully on his arm. "This is only because he is mistrustful because we were supposed to get married and he thinks there was something between us." she said more sadly.

"I am so sorry Drishti." Shikhar tried to comfort her, placing his hands on her shoulders, leaning over to look into her eyes. "This is all my fault because this swap was my idea but everything is being put on your back. Anyway! I will try talk to him too and I will even try with badi mom too! After all, if my bhabhi can talk to her sister for me, then this devar can face his lion like brother for you!"

Drishti laughed out loud and pinched his nose, like she does sometimes with Divya.

"Oh ho! My dear Shikhar. What would I do without you in this life?!"

"I hope I am not disturbing you."

They sprang apart on hearing the voice, and turned towards it. They both were shocked to see Rakshit standing in the room, looking at them, not so pleased.

" Mr Shergill. What are you doing here?" Drishti asked nervously.

"Why? Do I have to take your permission to come to my room now?"

"That is not what I meant. I mean you are home early today."

Shikhar, who knew why Drishti was feeling nervous, decided to peep in.

"Bhai, I came to see Drishti because I had to ask her something about Divya. I mean she is a woman too so I wanted to have her opinion on a ..."

He started giving an explanation but he was cut by Rakshit.

"Shikhar, Divya was looking for you downstairs. I don't think you should make her wait." He replied, making it clear, he wanted him out of his room.

"But bhai, let me explain first."

"Shikhar, it is okay. You go and see what Divya needs." Drishti said looking at Shikhar. She didn't want the matter to get worst than it already was.

Shikhar had no choice but to leave. He gave Drishti a helpless look before closing the door behind him.

Rakshit was furious. He again walked in on his wife having a great time with his brother and it made him burn. Everytime he'd catch them together, he'd feel angry because he wanted to be the one to make her laugh. He walked toward his wardrobe to change because he wanted to cool down instead telling her something he'd regret later.

"Mr Shergill. I can explain."

"Damn this woman." He thought.

Drishti knew very well how he was feeling in this moment and decided to make things clear immediately instead of turning around the bush.

"Mrs Shergill. I didn't ask for any explanations so leave it."

"But still I want to explain."

He turned around to face her and decided to pour out all of his anger.

"Oh really Mrs Shergill?! But why?! Who am I to you, for you to explain? Didn't you say last time, there is no relationship between us? If there is no relationship, then there shouldn't be any explanations! So save your time and strength. Anyway I also remember you said Shikhar was a better listener than I was and he was gentle with you. So why? Why did you even marry me and not him when you were supposed to? Why marry me if you knew you turned to him every single time after our marriage?" he spit at her.

Part 2 :

"Truth never damages a cause that is just."
― Mahatma Gandhi.

"Mr Shergill. I know you are angry, but that doesn't give you the right to denigrate my character like this." Drishti replied back furiously too.

"Haan you are right. You are always right and I am always wrong. Who am I anyway to you to ask for anything? I don't have this right, so there is no need to explain."

"My husband." Drishti replied confidently, making Rakshit stare at her, amazed. "You are my husband and you have the right to ask and to know. Whatever I said last time, it was because I was angry and when one is angry, only nonsense is uttered. Just like you right now."

Rakshit couldn't believe the guts of this woman. Was she really the one claiming him to be her husband? What had happened to her? She was so tiny and yet she was so strong and confident. He sat on his bed and held his head in his hands. He was tired. Of everything. Nothing has been simple in his life lately and he couldn't take it anymore. He was constantly torn between his mother and his wife. His wife. The way they got married, was uncommon but he was glad she had been his bride. He chuckled. He had himself asked her to marry him twice and both times she'd refused. And then she forces herself onto him, in the most improbably way possible, when he was supposed to be wedded to someone else. He looked at her and again was mesmerized at how beautiful she was. He shook his head to clear his mind and asked her again.

"Mrs Shergill. Tell me now. Why did you marry me?"

"Mr Shergill. How many times will we have this conversation? I can ask you this too again . Why did you marry even you clearly saw my face at that day? Divya and Shikhar had already gotten married, so you couls just have said no and leave it to that." she counterbacked.

"I had gone crazy for a moment." he muttered.

"What??"

"Nothing. Anyway, again the same accusation and putting all of it on my back. I am not like you Mrs Shergill. I have always said I'd get married for my mom's sake, so why would I have refused even if it was you the bride?" he said, trying to explain himself.

"Oh really? And how useful was that? Look where it led us! Mahima ma'am hates me! It would have been better if you had said no only! "

He looked at her and sighed. "Look, I am tired of this now, so let's just agree to disagree okay? You are always so secretive and I am always in the dark." he said while getting off the bed. " I just cant live like this anymore. We both can't. We are both hurting. It doesnt concern only us by the way. Shikhar and Divya are too. I know you are more comfortable with Shikhar and I don't know why you married me, but if you want it to change, you can tell me. I will talk with everyone."

"What are you talking about Mr Shergill?" Drishti asked nervously. She had never seen her husband this way and she had a bad feeling about it.

"You don't have to stay in a relationship you don't want to. You just have to tell me the truth and I will do everything you want."

"What I want?" Drishti asked confused

"Divorce. You are clearly not happy in this relationship and neither do we share a marital one. Heck we are even friends. You clearly have a better equation with Shikhar." He said, frustrated.

"Look Mr Shergill you are mistaken. It is really complicated."

"Oh really? You wanted to give me an explanation earlier. Give one now then."

"I can't."

"I will tell you."

They both turned around and was shocked to see Divya in their room.

"What is the meaning of this? Divya, can't you knock before coming in? What is this way of barging in??" Drishti asked, panicked.

"What the hell?" Rakshit asked, confused on seeing Divya in their room, followed by Shikhar.

This latter closed thedoor behind him and turned to them.

"Bhai. I've already said it before. I swapped the brides because I wanted to marry Divya. It is my fault only."

"Oh shut up Shikhar. We all here know it is pure bullshit. No need to lie anymore." Rakshit replied agressively.

"But.."

"Shut up all of you!" Divya said loudly, silencing both brothers.

"Divya..." Drishti rushed toward her, only to be cut off by her bold sister.

"You too just shut up Di!"

"Di?" Rakshit asked, shocked, looking at both Drishti and Divya.

"Haan Di! Drishti is my sister! Elder sister by 1 min!" she snapped angrily and yet proudly, at him.

Rakshit was at lost of words. How? Since when?

"What do you mean by "since when? ". Since birth of course." Divya replied, looking at him as if he was stupid.

Did I just think out loud?

"Yes you did! Rakshit, are you sure you are feeling well?" Divya asked.

"Divi..." Drishti reprimanded her while Shikhar chuckled softly.

"Anyway, I was saying, Drishti is MY sister!" she said pointing a finger at Rakshit. "She is neither an orphan nor is she alone. I will not tolerate the way you speak to her. Who do you think you are?"

"Err her husband?!" Rakshit said the same thing Drishti had told him a while back. He looked at his wife, who seemed proud of his sister at the moment. A look at his brother, and he knew that this latter was aware of the truth way before him. What exactly the hell was going on here?

"Husband my foot!" Divya yelled at him, making everyone jumped. "Where are you, every time your mom taunts her? Saying she is an orphan or is a liar? Or whenever she is denigrating her? Haan? Does a husband suspect his wife's character like this?" she asked, a hand on her hip.

Rakshit was ashamed because he knew she was right. All this was too much to take in but the truth couldn't be changed.

A teary eyed Drishti tried to stop her sister yet again, in vain.

"Divi, stop. Please. Is this a way to talk to him?"

"Di, why are you like this? After whatever they said to you, you are still defending and caring for him. Look Rakshit, I agree the way both our weddings happened, was not right. My sister is at fault, but so is your brother! The swapping bride wala idea was indeed his idea. Stupid."Divya said, looking at him angrily. "And he's done a lot worse than my sister, but no one will ever say anything to him. My sister is always the scapegoat."

Divya was on fire. She was tired of this. Everyone always pointed at her sister and she couldn't take it anymore. She looked at her and she knew she was hurt. She didn't have to tell her, for her to know she had feelings for her husband now. That's why she had to knock some senses in this head of his. Of her own husband, she'd take care later.

"Shikhar and Drishti were never going to get married, Rakshit."

She dropped the bomb, making Rakshit's heart skip a beat. He was shock-stricken. He was getting a lot of information in this short time, yet this was the only one which had this effect on him and he couldn't help stare at his wife.

"What?" he whispered.

"When I said, I wanted to get married to her," Shikhar continued, "I never actually meant it. The idea was to get married to Divya and that's it. She said she'd let you know who was your bride at the last moment so it could ne stopped."

"You never meant to marry him?" Rakshit asked Drishti, who couldn't utter a word and just shook his head in a no.

It was like a weight had been lifted from his heart, and Rakshit did his best to suppress a smile.

"But Shikhar, why did you want to get married to Divya? And you Mrs. Shergill why did you get involve? Damn I can't understand a thing." He asked confused, sitting on his bed.

"Yeah, but the only part which you understood clearly was that Di didn't want to marry Shikhar." Divya taunted making both of them blushed. "Anyway, I will explain. It is a long story, so we better all sit."

Both Divya and Drishti told them everything from how their parents had been killed when they were kids, in which circumstances they were separated, how the wedding hapoemed, how they found each other after so long and how now they were being hunted for their powers. Shikhar too revealed, ashamed, how he had taken part all of this and how he realized what his mistakes were. Rakshit was angry, he had been in the dark, but yet he understood where everyone stood in their decisions and how difficult it must have been for them, especially for his wife; for it was only with her everyone was angry at.

Divya and Drishti were relieved.

Divya was unburdened because whatever her sister had done was for her and she had felt guilty about it. She knew she'd be her priority always, but she had seen in her eyes, it hurt her to be torn between her sister and husband. A look at Shikhar and she knew he was genuinely sorry for what he did to them and was repenting. She knew she'd forgive him but she just needed a little time, for he could just be forgiven like this and had to suffer a little too or it'd be too easy.

Drishti was now at ease, because her husband was aware of her past. She had never meant to hide it from him, but the situation was like this. Most importantly, she was glad that the status of her relationship with Shikhar was now crystal clear and wouldn't be a problem anymore. She knew right now he felt guilty for everything he'd say to her but she knew she forgave him, for he felt insecure only because he was jealous, something he would never admit of course.

After a while, Divya and Shikhar decided to go to their room and let the couple discuss. Before going away, Divya turned towards Rakshit with a mischievous grin.

"Jiju, now it is confirm Drishti is not orphan. Most importantly you know now that she is indeed a Pisces girl, which mean she is the one meant for you, to protect you and all that. Don't forget to tell that your mom haan? And of course take care of my sister, for without her, who knows what may happen to you!" she said with a wink, leaving a blushing Rakshit and Drishti flabbergasted.

"Divi! Stop this!"Drishti said throwing a cushion at the door, which Divya closed behind her, laughing out loud.

"Kuch bhi bolti hai yeh ladki." She muttered.

She wasn't sure of what to say or what to do, because she knew it was a lot for him to digest, so just made her way to bathroom. Rakshit grabbed her wrist before she could get away for him and drew her closer to him.

They both stared at each other for a while and Rakshit was the first to break the silence.

"So you never meant to marry Shikhar?" he asked huskily while Drishti was taken aback.

"What's wrong with you Mr. Shergill?! All of things you've learnt today, this is the only thing you have to ask about?"

"Haan." He simply replied, bringing her closer to him by snaking her hands around her waist.

Drishti blushed, but she decided to be bold too.

"Why don't you just say you were jealous Mr. Shergill?"

"Fine. I was. Happy?" he said bluntly

Drishti was surprised by his sincerity since she thought he would deny.

"Yes. I was jealous." He finally admitted.

Drishti look at him fondly and hugged him with all her might, catching him off guard.

"I am so sorry Mr. Shergill. For everything."

Rakshit too held her tightly and slowly caressed her back.

"Shh Mrs. Shergill. It's been quite a day. Let's call it a night and we will talk tomorrow okay?"

They both knew they still had a long way to take concerning their relationship but at least everything was clear between them and they knew everything would fall into place by its own.

The couple stayed in each other's arms, not wanting to let go, for they had found solace after a long time.
