The first season of Sacred Games was a huge hit amongst the masses. It quickly became the talk of the town not only because of its unique plot, but also due to its direction and the splendid cast. Sacred Games 2 has been making the headlines ever since Kalki Koechlin & Ranvir Shorey became a part of the series.

The original release of the much-awaited sequel was scheduled by Netflix on 28th June, after the recent posters were released. But it looks like the fans will have to wait more than usual as the release date may just be postponed because of its leading cast. As per recent Mid-Day reports, there multiple reasons why the makers are planning on postponing the web-series.

To begin with, the leading men, Nawazuddin as well as Saif are both busy with their respective projects. While Saif is currently shooting for Jawaani Jaaneman in London alongside Alaia F, Nawaz, on the other hand, is busy with Bole Chudiyan. There’s this recent series Leila which is working pretty well, so it’ll be only sensible to give both the projects some space to individually flourish.

According to mid-day’s close source, “There are two reasons for the delay. First, the show’s leading men are preoccupied with their respective projects. While Saif is shooting for his home production Jawani Jaaneman in London, Nawaz has allotted bulk dates to his brother’s directorial venture Bole Chudiyan.

Secondly, the platform’s recent Indian original Leila has been winning praise. So, the head honchos wanted a considerable gap between Leila and their next big show. The series will drop online in August, with post-release promotions scheduled for September.”

The show is based on Vikram Chandra’s book Sacred Games. The second season picks up from Sartaj Singh (actor Saif Ali Khan) pursuing his relentless battle of saving the city and Ganesh Gaitonde (actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is facing bigger challenges to retain his position as the legendary kingpin of Mumbai.

The intriguing Guruji (actor Pankaj Tripathi), introduced in season one as Gaitonde’s third father, plays a pivotal role in unfolding a chain of events that shape the next season. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and Neeraj Ghaywan have directed the new season.
