This is what I love about you N. You take readers along with you. I am liking these discussions and understanding the characters with fellow readers. It's a different experience from just reading and commenting.

Thank you, radz

Its also lovely to have you here. 🤗

Believe me, with the characters as complex as here, its a lot better to discuss and understand, than to think and get confused

Hi N

Sorry for continuing my comments late. Wanted to complete my comments before reading others’

Arnav-

His character in Withered is the most complex one when compared to your other stories till now.

Arnav never had anyone love him truly for himself other than his mother Aarti. Estranged from his biological dad due to his workaholic nature, it was Aarti who became his dad and mom. Unfortunately for Arnav, his own father passed away very early in his childhood(I suppose). The young widowed Aarti was left alone with a young boy and found solace in Manohar. While getting legal formalities worked out, it appears Arti fell in love with a much married Manohar who also was in a loveless and helpless marriage with his then wife Priya a socialite. It appears that Aarti’s affections hitherto reserved only for Arnav would have shifted its axis towards Manohar. Manohar a gem of a man loved Arti to bits and married her leaving his wife and young son Aakash. Was Payal’s conception a last ditch effort by Priya to hold on to Manohar or was she a much latest unwanted entrant in her parents’ lives remains to be seen.

Entry of Manohar in Aarti’s life must have been resented by Arnav a young and impressionable boy who must have felt Mano is ursruping his place in his mother’s affections. Alas from what I understand It appears that before Arnav could warm up to Manohar, Aarti passed away, leaving a widowed Manohar with a young rebellious boy and a busy work life. Did Manohar go back to Priya in the understanding that she would accept young Arnav as a part of the family? Or was there any other reason due to which Manohar was forced or went back to Priya.

Once Manohar went back, the shrewd Priya accepted Manohar as her husband but did not want anything to do with Arnav. Was Arnav very young and had he been sent to boarding school for residential studies or by then was he already a young man who had completed his studies?

At every turn in his life, Arnav faced only disillusionment and rejection. First his own father never acknowledged his existence. His mother loved him but married Manohar and her love was shared between A and M. Manohar’s love never felt real to Arnav. Priya never loved Manohar. Akash never was in Arnav’s vicinity and Arnav never felt any love for Akash but hated him for getting a family life that was lost to him. Only Payal loved Arnav in her own way and Arnav too loved his step sister.

In school/college he became friends with Aman. Aman’s friendly overtures may have made Arnav accept him whole heartedly without any reserve for he wanted to be loved and accepted for who he was. Aman who loved Arnav like a dear friend, his true well wisher. Alas Aman also introduced him to politics in School into a field that held only deceit and betrayal.

Shyam -Aman introduced Arnav to Shyam. Shyam is an unscrupulous person a smooth and slick talker. Shyam showered almost a paternal affection to Arnav and thus made a place for himself in Arnav’s heart. Arnav felt the entire world shone with Aman and Shyam for they were the people who had been with him, cared for him, protected him when he had no one.

Alas, Arnav could never understand Manohar’s true worth. Manohar actually loved Arnav more than probably Akash because he knew Arnav was vulnerable. His façade a strong man was not lost upon Manohar.

It was for this reason that Manohar managed to convince Khushi to marry his idle son Arnav rather that his ideal son Akash who must have been a much worthier partner for Khushi. Manohar was a bit selfish here ( which is understandable) as he wanted the best for his son Arnav which was Khushi. Khushi with her perceptive brain would be able to protect Arnav from the likes of Aman and Shyam

Khushi- She was the first person whom Arnav felt drawn to. She reminded him of his mother Aarti. Shashi was familiar to Arnav as a principled person who had helped his mother. Arnav felt drawn to Khushi’s principles and her beauty and he lost his heart unknowingly to her when he met her the first time.

To a person who was bereft of love his whole life, marrying Khushi was like a child who suddenly got all the toys he wished for. In his elation and happiness, he is unable to understand what Khushi wants or needs. He only knows that he loves her a lot like he has never loved anyone else.

All of us commented that Arnav cannot judge people. That is because he is a very straight forward person who takes people at face value. I don’t think he has looked beyond what Shyam and Aman have showed to him. Their rosy talks with Arnav have made him believe that they are always there shoulder to shoulder with him. It is only when Arnav will be faced with the real face of Aman and Shyam will he realise that Manohar had been right all along.

Arnav needs to face that he has wrongfully misjudged Manohar and has been wrong in believing in Shyam and Aman.

Though I know that Shyam is Black, I would like to give a benefit of doubt to Aman as I feel maybe he has unknowingly caused harm to Arnav

Locked and sealed. We will revisit you comment later in the story

Bereft of love, so true. Arnav is not to be judged.

And yes I remember how in chap 2 you gave Aman a benefit of doubt.

Lets see what is in store

That's why I said 'APPARENTLY" for Akash ..

@bold- Now this is the crux of the whole issue. 😛

No, no. Akash had Priya all along. She loves him dearly.

Yes, something hold me back from giving Akash the whole credit!

Ok, but if Priya loved Akash dearly and seemed to have done/ sacrificed many things in life for AKASH then why Akash is with Manohar? what about Priya?

We know from Payal's POV that Priya has accepted Manohar as her husband after Arti's demise - we know from Manohar's POV that he got back to Priya for Payal - Otherwise there is nothing between Priya and Manohar

So far, I could see Akash has a secret, for a long time hence he is not someone who he appears to be!!

Hope Akash's ideology is not same as Arnav's
