Vaishnavi Macdonald started her television career with Doordarshan’s ’90s hit, Shaktimaan and since then, the actor hasn’t looked back. She has been a part of more than 40 TV shows and over 20 movies and is currently seen in two TV dramas. Other than her acting roles, what excites her the most these days is directing. She has directed one episode in a web series available on YouTube and wants to direct more often now. “I directed some comedy skits and short films and put them online but they were amateurish. When my friend who has his own YouTube channel asked me to direct one episode, I took up the opportunity, as bringing a script to life gives me a lot of satisfaction,” she says.
While Vaishnavi has often done dramatic roles on the tube and played a motherly figure in TV shows, she now wants to explore comedy. She directed herself in some comedy skits and enjoyed the experience but rues the fact that the industry typecasts actors and refuses to give them a chance in other kinds of roles. “Comedy is challenging as it is not easy to make people laugh as an actor or director. But on TV, people don’t like to experiment. So, I will be making vines and putting them online on my own YouTube channel. People like Ashish Chanchlani and Harsh Beniwal have been making vines as they have a flair for it, and they are doing well online. I have a flair for comedy, too, and I would like to explore that.”
