Why is it surprising? Priyanka was not only bullied at school for her complexion but also at home and at work too. Her family called her kaali because she was darker than her cousins. On movie sets directors used to say put some more powder on her she’s looking dark. This was the norm, doing fairness ads didn’t seem wrong because that’s just what was ingrained in society. Most top actors/actresses have endorsed at some point. Priyanka has said she realized later it’s wrong, overcame her own complexes and stopped endorsing. Priyanka stopped endorsing almost 10 years ago and has been speaking out about it since.

I think people should call out those that still endorse in today’s day and age when there’s so much awareness of the social impact. SRK, Alia, Huma, Yami and many others still endorse fairness creams.

That's great message to give to the younger generation. Kudos to her. Kangana also refused it few years ago and has followed through on it.
