Karan Johar announced his next project, a multi-starrer period drama titled 'Takht' in 2018. The filmmaker also revealed the cast of the film which includes Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.

Recently, rumours of the film being shelved have been doing rounds the internet. However, according to our sources, the film has not been shelved and the production work has already been started. The work is happening from KJo's residence, all the team members including ADs and HODs are working out at filmmaker's home.

Meanwhile, when the audience compared Karan's 'Takht' to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film as he is known for making epic period dramas, KJo said that he would be lying if he didn’t admit that the comparison is very challenging.

Set in the Mughal era, Ranveer and Vicky will be seen playing the roles of two brothers while Kareena is essaying the role of their sister. Anil Kapoor to play father to the above trio. Alia as Ranveer's wife and Bhumi as Vicky's wife while Janhvi will be a slave girl.

The change of the pairings is new. I believe it was reported that it was Ranveer/Jahnvi and Vicky/Alia. I guess maybe Karan changed it after the response to Gully Boy. Also weird they are working out Karan's home. I mean Dharma has an office space.

This movie has had such a negative vibe to it from the very start. Nothing to do with actors though, the cast is stellar. Just the idea of Karan directing a Mughal period drama... It feels so wrong lmao.

I found only one article talking about Takht being shelved. According to this article foxstar is funding Takht as well.

"The source informed us about the difficulties K Jo is facing to make things work for Takht. There are monetary issues with him and Fox Studios who were co-producing this period drama with Dharma Productions. Since the film is mounted on a huge scale, the budget is giving Karan some sleepless nights. He had a discussion with the production house and they even decided to work on this 'capital issue' but nothing seemed to yield any great results. Janhvi Kapoor is a Huge Admirer of This Takht Actress - Guess Who.

Moreover, Ranveer Singh recently confirmed that his next big release after '83will be Yash Raj Films' Jayeshbhai Jordaar. There was no mention of Takhtwhatsoever. And though this may sound a bit far-fetched but plans about it going on floors have been mothballed. While some believe if Kalank's recent failure is the reason behind abandoning Takht, others suspect its enormous budget to be a key factor. We tried to get in touch with the filmmaker's team and they are yet to revert."

Ranveer already announced a movie that will go on the floor during the dates he had blocked for Takht. He is not an actor who shoot for two or three movies at the same time. Also his team made it really clear that Jayesh Bhai is his next release after 83. Kjo is hiding something he should clarify now.

Do you think it's possible that Karan is trying to get Ranbir to leave the Luv Ranjan film (recent blind about it) so he might have a back up just in case Ranveer left Takht?

No more audition tapes needed for Alia as she already bagged a SLB movie. 😁

Aloo wanted a SLB film so Papa was making Takht for her but now that she actually got an SLB film no need for Takht to exist anymore.😆
