the stillness in the air, in that moment of suspense and terror, with danger surrounding them, and then other one, the stillness that settled in the heart with the aftermath.
I loved the dream in between those moments..her subconscious mind trying to seek to the memories of comfort and relaxed moments
Without even speaking, his actions always give away what's in his mind and heart. It is not mere attraction, he was taking an utmost caution and care when it came to her safety. Geet too was concerned for him, she ran back to him without thinking about her own life, may be out of humanity, for her soft nature is in-tuned towards human care, impulse of the moment for the people whom she had come to know. Doesn't look like a Stockholm syndrome case.
Wasn't it another good chance to escape and keep herself safe, she did not opt for it, and She will come back again after getting some help.
Your titel not changed .. Many dont know u updated 😏😏
Chapter 14 – Lifeline
“Park up here, we need to run,” she urged the elderly man as he frantically pulled the van to one side. He had been tending to his garden, cleaning the remnants of leaves from the trees when a young woman approached him, her face flushed and her eyes panicked.
She stated that her husband had been injured and he needed to be taken to a hospital. Her pleas were enough for him to abandon his daily routine and accompany her, allowing her to direct. Every so often, she would wipe her forehead with the sleeve of her jacket and mutter quietly under her breath.
The love between them must run deep,he thought, not being able to imagine the sheer frenzy and fear that must be running through her head as her beloved’s life hung in the balance.
The van rolled to a stop and Geet jumped out, pacing into the forest. The old man followed behind her, as fast as he could until they eventually made it out of the woodland and onto the empty field.
Geet fell at Maan’s side when she reached him and instinctively placed her hand on his neck for a pulse. His heart was still beating, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hang on in there, please just hang on in there,” she pleaded as she beckoned to the old man.
“We need to carry him to your van as quickly as possible.”
Geet took most of his weight, securing his arm around her shoulder. Her legs almost buckled but she ignored the pain, solely focused on ensuring that he received medical care as quickly as possible. Her heart beat showed no signs of slowing down as they led him through the forest.
The old man adjusted the back of his van hastily, rearranging some old fabric for Maan to lie down.
“Place him on the fabric, it’s clean” he assured Geet, but was surprised when she laid him down and then sat with her back against the wall and adjusted his shoulders so that his head was nestled against her chest.
Giving them a moment of privacy, the old man hurried to the front of the van and began to drive through the woodlands onto the main stretch of road.
Geet cradled his shoulders with one arm, whilst her other hand ran over the back of his head. She held him close in order to still feel his breath against her skin, an assuring signal that he was still alive.
However, her own breaths stilled when she felt his whisper.
“Geet,” he muttered, and her hand instantly stilled against the back of his head.
He moved his head slightly, and then groaned at the familiar sensation of pain that shot through his back.
“It’s okay,” she said, running her hands through his hair now. Her other hand held onto his shirt, wanting to comfort him with her presence.
“Can you drive faster?” she said to the old man, who was now on the main stretch of road.
“I’m trying, but I don’t want to risk breaking down. Don’t worry, we’ll be there soon.”
“You’ll be okay, I promise.” She felt his eyelashes flutter against her skin, suddenly hyper aware of his every movement.
Maan drifted in and out of consciousness, but he knew it was her.
His mind drifted back and forth between the memories. The healing of the wound. The locking of the eyes, sometimes bewildered, sometimes defiant, always resilient. The feel of her lips against his, on that fateful night when the skies had been cold outside but just being near her had warmed every inch of his skin.
He wondered if those memories would be the last thing he’d take with him, if his life was to end here.
“How much longer?” she asked again, her hands never leaving his hair.
“Almost there, I promise.” He looked in his rearview mirror, at the woman cradling the man in her arms, and his eyes opening and closing repeatedly but refusing to move away from her.
He prayed that life wouldn’t be so cruel to tear their souls apart.
After what felt like an eternity, the van pulled up to the hospital.
“Can you hold him whilst I fetch the paramedics? Please?” She asked him, slowly moving Maan off her.
Instinctively, his hand reached out for her and weakly held her wrist.
“Don’t leave me.”
“I’ll be right back, I promise. I need to get a stretcher for you.” She stroked his hair once more, and then slowly shifted his weight off her to climb out of the van.
Within minutes, a hoard of paramedics arrived with a stretcher. One of the paramedics recognised Geet, and felt compelled to ask her who he was after observing her directions to keep him flat on his stomach, anxiety and worry etched on her face.
“He’s my husband,” was all she said as she walked with the paramedics as they led him into the hospital.
“Husband? I didn’t know you got married. How did he even get hurt?”
Geet ignored her incessant questions, her eyes fixed on Maan as they led him inside. She stopped when she realised something, and reached for her phone but soon realised it had been left behind in the woods.
Amidst the events, it had been the last priority on her mind.
………..
Vivek frowned at the unknown number, his hand hovering over the reject button as he remembered Chauhan.
Maan had been unreachable all morning. He had decided to withhold the information from Smriti, but he was beginning to feel anxious.
Taking a deep breath, and preparing himself for the worst, he pressed accept instead.
“Yes?”
“Maan’s been shot,” came the familiar voice from the end of the line. “You need to bring Smriti and get to the hospital, now."
YAYYY She sort of saved him! Old man and his wise eyes read right, there is love brewing between them, but its hard to give it that name at this time. Wonder how Vivek willl react towrads Geet.
awesome update dear, geet save maan and he knew as well, hopefully he stays away from vivake now
