I remember being this young teen(I was 14) watching this one in those times when cable television used to screen/premier new movies from those pirated DVD😆.
TBH, I wasn't really a Katrina fan at that time. Didn't had any female fav tbh till than, had a crush on Kajol during Pyaar Kiya toh Darna Kiyu time, although I was just a four-five years old. Akki was always my fab.
obviously that first look of Katrina in salwar when she goes to meet Ritesh, god she looked so beautiful. But as the movie progressed, I became more and more interested by Jazz, after being aware that she was personification of the ultimate girl which almost every guy falls for, but never gets because for all her beauty, she is just another selfish, self centered and stupid human being.
So I was so much interested into knowing how will Arjun win over her, or he will realize it is not worth it.
So the whole movie from that point, the point when she marries him and than reveals it was just an ploy when they're in London, made me so much interested. As the movie progressed, I was like ''leave this girl, you will get better'', but when than I was back when that epic speech scene happened.
That time I got hope that Jazz, isn't just other worldly gorgeous, she also has a heart, an Indian heart, which is now just being held back by her ego, the ego of defeating her father.
So now I was full on supporting Arjun get the girl, and also wanted Jazz to see the light. Yes cheesy, but we all are little cheesy.
And as the movie ended with some setbacks, few emotional dialogues and a hilarious finale, where I was happy as if I got Jazz. Also I will not lie, I still was not a total Katrina fan after that for sometime, I loved Jazz, but Katrina being my fab happened during the SIK phase with Teri Ore phase.
But for that time, NL became my Akki movie, while Jazz became the dream girl (although she was replaced by Kalpana when Ghajini released and than Zoya when Jannat released).
Also as I have watched it for so many times, I have come to the conclusion on what appealed me apart Jazz, was the way the treatment of the movie was very different from the usual treatment of Indian romantic movies.
It wasn't your classic Bollywood ''in your face'' romance that most of the Bollywood movies were during those time. And I dunno about others, but I find NL very refreshing, and with each viewing I find something new every time.
And with each viewing, I have grown to appreciate the fact that Rishi Kapoor is such a natural and brilliant actor. While Upen Patel's utter incompetence makes me shiver.
So what are your thoughts and views about the movie after 12 years??
