Depends on the event. If it's a big event, they starve (literally starve) and make sure not to take in salt for a few days. For normal appearances, they eat normally. They are normal human beings so food shows no differently on them as they do on us.

Also, people who are not genetically thin or skinny have to work hard to maintain a slim built. They can't just eat anything and get away with it. It will show. Their weight tends to fluctuate more.
