Ravan remembers a past incident as Narad reminded him: -

Ravan is returning after conquering other kings on the globe. He hears some lady

chanting mantra to worship Lord Vishnu. He finds that it is a very beautiful lady.

Ravan - Beautiful lady, what are you doing in this forest? If my guess is correct, then you are Brihaspati's on Kushdhvaj's daughter Vedvati.

Vedvati - You are right.

Ravan - I have heard that there is nobody as beautiful as you are.

Vedvati - God has given me this beauty and this beauty is worldly. I am not interested in worldly things. Who are you?

Ravan - You do not know me? You do not know that great power who controls the entire creation, who conquered the world, whose valor is dicussed the world over?

Vedvati - I want to know your name.

Ravan - I am known as world - conquerer, great leader Lankesh Ravan. Girls are eager to accept me as husband because of my looks and virtues.

Vedvati - I am not that kind of girl. I am praying to accept Vishnu as husband.

Ravan - You want to get as husband the one, who is afraid of me, who thinks himself as all powerful by cheating others? I want to marry you and give reward for your exceptional beauty. Come with me. I give Lanka'c riches to you. You will get everything of enjoyment.

Vedvati - Don't you feel ashamed? Go away. Don't disturb my prayer.

Ravan (angrily) - You are commiting unforgivable crime of insulting me.

Vedvati - Your ego and desire are saying this. If you knew truth about me, then you would not have said such a thing. When I grew up, then innumerable men were attracted by my beauty and desired to marry me.

Vedvati describes to Ravan a past incident and that incident is shown:-

Demon king Shambu visits sage Kushdhwaj in his ashram. Kushdhwaj welcomes Shambhu and his men. Vedvati comes out of the hut.

Kushdhwaj - What do you want?

Shambhu - I have heard about the exceptional beauty of your daughter.

On Kushdhwaj's order, Vedvati goes inside.

Shambhu - I have come to ask for your daughter's hand. His life will be blessed. She will get all the pleasures of world.

Kushdhwaj - Keep quiet. If you were not my guest

Shambhu - If you do not consider my request, then it will be really bad.

Kushdhwaj - How dare you make such a request? Don't you feel ashamed asking for the hand of a rishi's daughter?

Shambhu - When a girl is of marriagable age, then everybody sees her. Why are you so angry? Don't you want to get your daughter married?

Kushdhwaj - I want to marry my daughter to Lord Sri Hari Vishnu.

Shambhu laughs. Kushdhwaj and Shambhu threaten each other. Shambhu goes away.

Kushdhwaj (to Vedvati) - I will marry you to God Vishnu. He has to come.

Vedvati thinks - Father, my beauty has become a problem for you. You are pained when somebody wishes to marry me. What do I do to make you happy?

She tells Kushdhwaj that he has to suffer a lot because of her.

Kushdhwaj - There will be problems when the decision is so big. After marriage, everything will be good.

In the night, Shambhu comes and tries to go inside the hut but cannot because of the spiritual powers of sage Kushdhwaj. He kills the sage when the later is sleeping.

Vedvati wakes up and comes out. Shambhu hides. Vedvati sees that her father is dead. She cries.

Vedvati - Demons, with whatever intention you killed my father - that intention will never become fruitful.

Ok this story does not completely fit into the timeline of this serial. It is supposed to take place at the end of Dashanan's 14 year world conquest campaign. He introduces himself to Vedaveti as "Lankeshwar Ravan". But, he had neither received the title of "Ravan" from Lord Shiva yet nor had he officially taken over the throne of Lanka. He made an agreement with his brother that he would take over AFTER he returns from the campaign and that is exactly what happened. He was crowned King of Lanka when he returned and this is how the adult Dashanan was introduced in the serial. Afterwards, he also received his title of "Ravan". So how can he introduce himself as "Lankeshwar Ravan" in this story before he had even returned to Lanka from his campaign? 😕 Even if we excuse the "Lankeshwar" part as his arrogance, the "Ravan" part is inexcusable because he himself had no idea that he would eventually receive that name. 😕

Plus at this stage of the serial, he was shown as a man who did not take women by force. He was in fact, completely devoted to Mandodari if I remember correctly. He rejected the wife of that king who allied with him before the Ravan-Dasharath battle (I can't recall the name of the king right now). He got his second wife by wooing her and legally marrying her (of course his intention was to increase his political influence but the important thing is that he did not take her by force). Even now, he has rejected his uncles' idea of marrying Sita. So how does this all fit in? 😕

Somebody please give the writers some coffee.

BTW: It's wonderful to see akhl do an update again. I missed your posts in this forum. 😃

Here is why I was not updating: -
In one episode, it was shown that a little bird was afraid of Kaal (Death). Garud took her to a very far away place to save her and put her in a groove in a tree. A snake there killed the bird. Garud was dejected but it was too late now.
Kaal came there. He said to Garud, "I knew it was written in the bird's fate that she would die in this place. But she was living thousands of miles away from here. I was wondering what she was doing there when she had to die the same day at a very far away place. This made me laugh. But, you see. Whatever was written in the bird's fate proved true."

This way, Garud took the bird to the jaws of death even though he wanted to save her.

As Ram tells Laxman, the morale of the story is that it is written in every creature's fate when it will die and it has to die at the time and place written in its fate.

This story depressed me a lot. I do not know why this depressed me. I know that it is most probably not a real story but a fiction to teach a morale. I know that even if it were real, the incident happened many years ago. But still the story depressed me a lot and I kept thinking over it. I kept thinking why the bird was not saved, why Garud took her to that tree where a snake lived, why Garud did not check inside the groove if everything was all right before putting the word there etc. I had to discuss at length with myself to make myself feel relaxed.
It took me several days to come out of the depression. Therefore, I did not update that episode. I thought that after some days, I would update that episode and later episodes but did not feel like watching that episode again (to update in detail, I needed to watch that episode again to make sure I did not miss anything important). In the mean time, lots of episodes were shown. I did not have time to rewatch and update all of those. Moreover, I found participation in this forum very small. Because of these reasons, I thought that there was no need for me to update.
Somehow I felt that let me update this 23 Feb episode even though I did not update lots of earlier ones.

I also found that the story did not match the timeline of the serial. But I did not mention because writers have been in confused mind from the episode in which Dashrath's sons were introduced (or I think a few episodes before that). I am used to this confused mind of theirs because I have no other way. 😉

But, now I find another problem. Many important incidents were not shown - Ram and Laxman killing Khar and Dushan; Ram breaking Shiva-bow and thus marrying Sita. Narrator mentioned these in just a few sentences. At that time, I thought that makers were not allowed enough episodes by the channel. But now I see lots of things being shown, which I find less important than the incidents, which were glanced over in a few sentences.
