Ekta Kapoor's latest love

Everything about her evokes interest. Be it her soaps, her penchant for numerology or the beads she wears. Ekta Kapoor is normally a delight to interview as she makes great copy. But at the launch of her new soap 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil' it was a surprisingly very quiet and subdued Ekta. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Tell us a little about 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil'.

This story is about two lovers. I would describe it as an ethereal story from my heart. The show is bound to ignite the magic of love and romance on television. I hope the viewers enjoy watching it, as much as I have enjoyed making it.
It seems to be the same old love-story or say old wine served in new bottle?
I think we all have the same old stories that we get to see again and again. What makes it different is its presentation and characters essaying the roles. I am not deviating from the fact of my new show being a love story. But it is a more passionate and younger love story.

What is the reason behind Balaji's trend of launching only new faces?

When you talk about a daily it means one would be seen 28 days a month which requires 30 days of shoot. So an actor being seen on a show airing four days a week and being telecast thrice a day comes along with a baggage of the character. One cannot get rid of the baggage and an already established image. It takes a lot to break the image for a long time unless he takes a break of a couple of years. I want people who are committed and hard working and who do not come with a baggage or image. Newcomers are always willing to work hard and give in their 100 percent.

Your shows including 'Kasturi' have not been doing well off late?

The reason for my certain shows not doing well as per the expectations is that they were aired on not so popular channels. But all my shows airing on different channels have been the top shows. Be it 'Kya Dill Mein Hai' on 9X or 'Kuchh Is Tara' on Sony. I can't create magic or shows that will shoot up to a TRP of 20. Even 'Karam Apna Apna' is the top show in the afternoon slot.

Why have vamps been an inevitable part of all your shows?

The vamps on our show are for the tadka. Time is the real vamp on our new show. You will see star crossed lovers drifted apart and pulled towards each other by destiny. As far as vamp required for giving tadka Tassniem Sheikh has done the needful.

A lot of the senior stars have been a reason for your grief. Your comments.

'Hum Jinhe Patthar Todna Sikhate Hain Who Hi Humein Baad Mein Patthar Marte Hai' (We teach them to sculpt rocks and in the end they pelt the same stones at us). Well, the show is more important than the faces essaying the characters. We are still the best in the game despite many leaving us.

More on 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil':

Queen bee's 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil' would replace 'Kasauti Zindagi Kay'. The soap is set against a traditional Punjabi family backdrop. 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil' is the story of two friends Balraaj Maan (Virendra Saxena) and Lalit Juneja (Deepak Quazir) who live in Ambala and the promise they make to each other. The promise, which decides the destiny of their children Heer (Additi Gupta) and Prem.
Both Balaji and Star Plus, do realise that they have pretty big shoes to fill. 'Kausati' was a well received daily soap. And, 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil' is a story which has been touched upon time in and out! So, are we in for a treat or another saga which talks about the journey of eternal love. Anupama Mandloi, Sr. Creative Director, STAR Plus, defends the serial and says, "It is only apt that a beautifully crafted, passionate love story about an eternal, pre-destined love should take its place. The show is bound to enthrall women of all ages with its colourful characters, its rustic feel and the story of a young man and woman whose journey of love has been decided even before they came into existence.

Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil', March 3rd, Mon-Thursday, 8.30pm, STAR PLUS!

Umm..what does she mean that her shows in other more popular channels are on the top????

Starplus airs Kasturi and by far the top shows from Balaji camp are aired on Starplus and in larger numbers than the other channels. I don't understand that comment by her.

As for her new show..its a copy from DDLJ even some of the dialogs. I was appalled by the first epi seeing how much of that classic movie they have copied. Ans she says the presentation is new...huff...but i do think the actors will bring in some freshness to this story.

TFS. but this doesn't have much to do with Kayamath
