A protest outside Sankraman Studio

Balaji Telefilms had to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) after members from the federation boycotted the shooting of all Balaji serials on Monday morning. This was in reaction to the recent arrest of Prem Singh Thakur, chairman of the vigilance department of FWICE, on false charges.

While Ekta Kapoor did not turn up for the compromise meeting with the members of the FWICE, the General Manager of Balaji Telefilms, Ketan Gupta, along with two others, met with the members of the federation at 2 pm on Monday.

Ekta Kapoor

Informs a member from the FWICE, "Our members refused to shoot with Balaji. As a result, the shooting of serials like Kayamat, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kasam Se were disrupted."

Informs Dinesh Chaturvedi, General Secretary of the FWICE, "There are about 11 points on which the two parties have come to an agreement. Firstly, all the daily wage workers will get their payment on a weekly basis. If the shift has to be extended they will get an additional half day payment along with conveyance for a late night shooting. Payments of different departments including technicians and workers should be made as per the agreed wages which will apply to all the 22 affiliates of the FWICE."

The case against Prem Singh Thakur, chairman of the vigilance department of FWICE, should be withdrawn and a written apology should be given to him, adds Chaturvedi, "If there is any issue that needs to be resolved it should be communicated through the production department of Balaji Telefilms and no other outside party should be allowed to interfere."

It maybe recalled here that the executive producer of Balaji Telefilms had got Prem Singh Thakur on false charges. Thakur, who heads the vigilance department of FWICE, had visited the Balaji set to check about the wages of the workers on Friday evening.
