Lesbian Themes Reach Bollywood

After making room for the occasional gay character and a handful of sensitively handled gay relationships, Bollywood will turn its gaze onto women who love women. A new Hindi film coming out (pun unintended) early next year, titled after an evergreen ballad of the 90s, will tell the story of a young girlfrom a traditional Punjabi family who discovers that she has feelings for another girl. It is, reportedly, as much about her parents and fianc coming to terms with this information as it is about her becoming comfortable with her truth.

The protagonist is played by a glamorous fashionista' star who prides herself on bucking trends when it comes to picking roles. Insiders say the subject has been treated with great sensitivity. Positioned as an emotional family drama', the movie stars A-listers in key roles.

I love this title & the film! Will go watch it in the theatre & I hope in the future more such films surface.

Please cast DP and Aishwarya in a lesbian movie!

I don't think "girlfriend" depicted same sex relationship with appropriate sensibility! .. It was more on the like of Dostana .. both went out to use the "gay" angle for he laughs of it .. girlfriend made lesbians creepy, scary and stalkerish while Dostana was a typical mock factory! .. None of the movies can be looked at as examples of sensible "same sex" relationships!

It makes me curious since the teaser of this movie looked like any other movie .. natural progression of a love story!

I meant they already had a movie on lesbians. it wasn't sensible or pc but it was fun.

Dostana wasn't about gays they were just pretending

this movie most likely will be boring AF

the girl will have a fianc they'll be ready to get married and all of a sudden she'll realize she's into girls and everyone will bend backwards for her including her fianc

they'll all "get her and accept her and the end

funny thing is it was described as a comedy but there'll be none just ott drama

girlfriend was at least fun
