I can tell that with the way kunal is acting and talking about his happiness, what he wants, blah blah blah, the writers are doing this to dig a grave for him, which he will eventually fall in and realise he himself had no idea what his happiness is in/ what is good for him, as by then his selfishness of only thinking about himself at the expense of betraying/ hurting mauli and taking her happiness away will have lead him to cursing his decisions, as things down the road will not be a rosy life of love with nandini.
7 years of love and marriage he had/ claimed with mauli, which he killed within 2-3 months of meeting nandini and claiming to now only love nandini/ want to be with her. Betrayed his love of 7 years for a girl he has claimed to fall in love with within a few months. And he thinks this love of his will last? Whose to say that once he gets nandini and marries her, just as how he fell for nandini so quickly and betrayed mauli so soon, he won't fall out of love with nandini and realise there are many things missing in his relationship with nandini?
The fresh spark of new love had made this man blind, but once that 'new' tag wears away, and nandini and kunal get accustomed to being in a relationship together as all couples do post the honeymoon phase of the relationship, reality will hit these selfish cheats hard. They fell for each other too quick, were quick to betray mauli to have a relationship together, now this relationship of theirs will be just as fickle and weak as the start of their love story was.
