Tanushree Dutta created an uproar after she recalled a 10-year-old alleged incident of sexual harassment at the hands of veteran actor Nana Patekar. The speculated incident took place on the sets of the movie Horn Ok Please (2009) when Tanushree was given a sleazy dance step to perform, without prior consent. When Tanushree refused to shoot, goons were sent after her while her car, as well as vanity van, were destroyed. Many Bollywood stars have now come out in support of Tanushree and she has successfully spearheaded the Me Too movement in India.
Recently, Parineeti Chopra was asked about the Me Too movement at the song launch of Proper Patola from Namaste England. Her response got mixed reactions from Twitterati as the actress said she hopes it's not the start of the Me Too movement. In an interview with The Times of India, the actress explained her comment saying that she hoped it would not be a start because, "then more stories will tumble out and we'll have to witness more women who have been hurt; actors, directors and choreographers who have been wronged in a beautiful industry like ours."
Parineeti further said that perhaps she is trying to avoid discomfort and conflict but she reiterated that if there are women who have been hurt then they should speak up.
When further quizzed if being Priyanka Chopra's sister and represented by YRF ensured her protection from the predators of Bollywood, Parineeti revealed, "I started my career under the leadership of Yash and Aditya Chopra. No one would dare to do anything immoral to anyone working with them. At the start of my career, my dad was skeptical and had asked me if I need my mother to be with me all the time. I told him that times have changed. The working environment in the film industry is young and cool now, there are more women on a film set than men."
