Dear Ranveer,
On first sight, I absolutely detested you. I still remember watching the trailer of Band Baaja Baarat, and wondering, why would anyone ever pay money to go see this annoying stalker-ish Delhi boy called Bittoo, when we see so many of them on the streets every day.
Eventually though, I did go see the movie, and felt a tiny flutter in my stomach.
I convinced myself it was a one-time-thing.
But it wasn't.
Whether it was the over-the-top Ram who spewed annoying rhyming lines.
Or the spoilt brat Kabir who seemed absolutely clueless about how this world actually worked.
The royal Bajirao, or the can't-get-any-hotter villain Khilji.
I realized I was slowly falling in love.
In love with this daring human being, who kept taking up completely different unlovable roles.
In love with this absolutely unapologetic over-the-top person, who didn't think twice before speaking his mind.
In love with this eclectic personality, who sometimes, well, seemed to be wearing his living room's curtains with panache.
But more than anything else, I realized, I was falling in love with this person who seemed to go out of his way to tell us that it was alright - alright to be ourselves in a world that loves nothing more than to strip us down, atom by atom, and criticize us until we fell in line.
Thank you, for teaching me that it's alright to be the quiet kid in the corner - or the absolute life of the party - as long as I was being true to myself.
Happy Birthday, to the truest actor I know!
Love,
Your reluctant fan.
