The Oscars do not let performers who sing live badly on the stage. A R R performed Jaiho on stage in his own voice. He started the performance of that segment and he was immediately followed by John Legend who is a very good singer. Oscars 2009, look it up. They did a medley of songs nominated that year and it concluded with JaiHo chorus. As a person of Tamil origin, my family and I were bursting with pride when he sang. He has sang the same song for the Noble concert. If he was so bad a singer, none of these august associations would have let him sing. So STFU Nigam.

For me it is Illayaraja Sir first. Next is Anirudh (The composer of Why this Kolaveri di) who is also a play back singer. Anirudh studied music in Trinity college London and Carnatic music.

ARR's range is not very great, but he can sing more than the Jai Ho song. One of his best IMO is the Kwaja song from Jodha Akbar. It is one of the best musical muslim type songs in BW ever. I assume Sonu must not for heard it as even Azaan irritates him. 🤔
