Chapter 3 - Her beauty sleep

After dinner, Khushi and Shanu were asked to change into their pajamas and go with Nani to Raizadas house, Anjali had called up at around half seven that she could not come yet as her sketch work might take longer and asked Nani to get dinner packed for her so she can eat it later when she gets back home.

Arnav had left immediately after his dinner as he got a call from Rahul, about some Maths problems. Arnav knew that Shanu and Khushi would be coming home soon so when Rahul said that he will come to collect the notes, he said that he will come half way and they meet up at an ice cream shop.

Rahul felt odd but agreed. Arnav was coming out of the main door of the Raizada mansion when he saw Nani, Khushi and Shanu coming in. He said to Nani "Nani, I will be back in some time, have to hand out these Notes to Rahul, will be back before an hour". Nani agreed and asked him to come soon.

Arnav noticed that Khushi was wearing her shorty pajamas which came to her knees. Again they were pink in colour, he thought "She is always in pink"

Shanu went straight to the living room and switched on TV to watch some spider man movie on Netflix.

Khushi sat with Nani on the sofa, Nani said to Khushi "Come I will braid your hair, you cannot sleep like that" Khushi had still her hair open from the evening dinner.

Nani asked Raju Kaka to make some tea for her and get a comb from the bedroom. Khushi sat down on the carpet in front of Nani's legs and rested her head in Nani's lap. Khushi asked Nani "When will Anjali Di be home?" Khushi always had lovely time with Anjali as she used to dress up Khushi and do make-up and hair styles on her and Khushi always loved it. Nani replied "Soon, till then you sleep in my room"

Khushi said "Hmm

Nani started brushing her long hair and Khushi felt drowsy ... time passed, in the background Shanu was making noises like "Yes, Yes", maybe an action fight scene in the movie.

Arnav came back around an hour later and saw Khushi sleeping while sitting on the carpet, with her back resting against Nani's legs, Nani was having tea and smiled at him. Arnav exchanged a glance at Shanu "Motu phir spiderman.." Shanu squealed "Chotey Bhaiya"

Arnav looked at Khushi sleeping and said "Nani, wake her, your legs will hurt"

Nani replied "Poor her, she was waiting for Anjali to return and slept--- must be tired", with that Nani stroked Khushi's forehead and Khushi dug more deeper into her legs and kind of fell flat on the carpet, deep in sleep.

Nani called out "Khushi, come Beta, you sleep in my bedroom"

But Khushi was oblivious to all the happenings around and deep in sleep.

Shanu shouted "She will not wake up now, she is awake early in mornings so she generally sleeps by 9 at nights aur ab to Ghode bech diye isne" and started laughing.

Arnav and Nani also could not contain their smiles, Arnav started to turn around to go upstairs, when Nani called him out "Chotey, Please pick her and take to my bedroom"

Arnav turned around shocked, and said "Nahi !"

Nani again called out to Khushi again, but all went in vain as she was in deep slumber now

Nani looked at Arnav with appealing eyes "Please Chotey, Nani does not ask many things from you"

Arnav did not know why he was reacting that way but somehow he felt he should not touch her...

Arnav turned around towards Shanu "She is your sister, can you not carry her?"

Shanu said "Arey main to chota hu, shall I call Raju Kaka?"

Arnav stared at Shanu for seconds and slightly shook his head.

Arnav helplessly looked at Khushi and moved forward "Hey... wake up"

But Khushi was dead to the world. Arnav turned to Nani and Nani again implored to him with her eyes.

Finally Arnav, bent down on the carpet and picked her up, one hand under her shoulders and other under her knees. She was feather weight, he thought. As soon as he stood up straight, he saw her head dangling away, to give support he brought her body near to his torso, as soon as he did that he had a sizzling sensation ...how soft she felt,

he could also smell her ...was it her baby soap or the shampoo ...whatever it was it smelled like strawberries. He was jolted immediately with the sensation and he tried to kick all his thoughts and feelings away and quickly wanted to get to Nani's room. Once he got there, he made her lie down on the other side of bed ...his nani sleeps on the side towards the door.

When he was about to lift up after putting her down on bed ...(he left her only when he was convinced that she was still in deep sleep); he had an urgent feeling to look towards her face . When he turned and looked at her, he realized he had stopped breathing ... maybe hoping that if he does not breathe he might not experience these sensations.

She was lost to any of the surroundings and maybe lost in her dreams of dolls he thought. He knew she still had a vast collection of dolls and soft toys in her bedroom ... she was odd!!

He then noticed that her night top was riding high and he saw her small midriff. His hand moved forward compelling to touch her soft skin, but somehow forced himself to pull the comforter over her.

She kind of moved a bit more under the comforter and he smiled. He just loved the moment and felt so contented, wanted time to go still, he kept on staring at her face, her bright eyes were closed but they still were a bit open, her mouth slightly open and her white teeth peeped out. Her hair was tied in a long braid which laid on the pillow, he wanted to touch her black hair, which had some streaks of brown there too.

When he heard something outside the room, he made a move and walked out of the room, and saw Nani walking towards him.

Nani said "Achha kiya beta, she was tired and you know how she is when she sleeps"

Arnav knew that once she slept at night, Shashi uncle still sometimes carried her home as she would not budge or maybe she was still pampered and again smiled at Nani and muttered "Badi ho gayi hai aur bhari bhi, now she cannot be carried around"

Nani said "Arey Kaha, abhi to bacchi hai"

Arnav shook his head and said "where is Shanu Nani replied "He is still watching Television, I am going to sleep and can you please check with Anjali, when she will be back?" Arnav nodded and said "Good night, Nani" and hugged his Nani.

Strolling towards Living room, Arnav said to Shanu "Chal, I am shutting doors, lets go upstairs to my room

Shanu switched the Telly off "Shall I make hot chocolate, bhaiya?" Arnav replied "hmm, you start, I will lock the doors and come to kitchen"

Shanu walked towards kitchen, the kitchen was massive and a state of art facility, Shanu took out milk from can and poured in two cups, Arnav came in and tried finding milk chocolate and after trying two three cupboards, he found and asked Shanu to heat up milk in microwave.

Shanu looked at Arnav and said "Bhaiya, do you have a girl friend?" Arnav stopped mid way while taking out heaped spoon from milk chocolate jar and stared at Shanu.

Arnav in a reprimanding tone said "Shanu, you should not be thinking such things and I have no girl friend, I have to study hard as about to start year 12, but ... Why do you ask?"

Shanu said "My friend Ajay's elder sister was asking, she is in same class as you" Arnav gave a thought "What's her name? Shanu smiled "Priya" and raised his eyebrows. Arnav squinted his eyes towards Shanu and said "No, I do not have girl friend and you should not be discussing me with her or her brother"

Priya was the popular girl from Arnav's class and all the boys hoped that Priya if not dated then atleast smiled at them. Ankit and Rahul both longed after Priya and thought Arnav was weird when he did not even look at her.

Shanu then said "Sexy to hai" and smiled... Arnav stared at Shanu and angrily said "Ye kaha se seekha, she is much elder than your sister too, and don't use such words, very bad. I ever hear such things from your mouth then I am going to tell Shashi Uncle"

Arnav then mixed chocolate in the cups and took a tray out and turned towards Shanu "I mean it Shanu... you want some biscuits?" Arnav tried changing the topic and Shanu dejectedly said "yes"

Arnav then thought to talk to the little boy "Shanu, who talks about girls and such things among your friends?"

Shanu embarrassingly answered "No one"

Arnav then nodded his head to switch the kitchen lights as he took the tray with cups and biscuits and walked towards the stairs to get to his room.

Shanu settled in the bed in Arnav's room with his chocolate milk, he then looked at Arnav who was sitting at his study table browsing through one of his Physics book. Shanu commented at Arnav "You are so studios, Bhaiya" Arnav replied without turning his attention away from the book "Hmm'

Shanu treaded again "You know, I heard Sonia saying that you look HOT" Arnav furrowed his eyebrows "Now who is Sonia?

Shanu replied "Khushi's TRIO don't you know Priyanka, Sonia and Khushi, all 3 are always together"

Arnav knew the TRIO, but he never spoke to either Priyanka or Sonia; though Sonia did look oversmart kind of a girl to him and he knew that she always noticed him in the school, in return he always ignored her.

"Infact they have been in same schools since nursery, I don't like it, nowdays they are always giggling about boys" Shanu replied.

Arnav fastened his eyes on Shanu, in return Shanu replied in breaks "I do not... overhear their talks, ...promise"

When Arnav did not stop staring, Shanu got anxious "I have just tried to hear their talks 1-2 times"

Arnav turned his head back to the book and took a sip from his mug "So what did this Sonia say?"

Shanu smiled and sat straighter on the bed "She said you look so dashing and was asking Khushi to introduce you to her"

"Then what did Khushi say?"Arnav had his full attention on Shanu by now.

"Khushi said he will not be interested, don't even think about it" Shanu said dully.

"Are you interested Bhaiya?" Shanu asked hopefully

Arnav now had his eyes bored into Shanu "NO..and you NEVER overhear the girls, she is your sister and her friends, it's really bad manners"

Shanu replied "Sorry!" and turned his attention to his mug of chocolate.

Arnav turned to his book but his head hovered on what Shanu disclosed, he thought - so she and her friends do talk about me

Arnav turned towards the book, slid forward in is chair and glided his fingers in his hair and smiled to his heart's content.
