THAT WAS AMAZING
It was just WOWIt was very sweet that Gauri deliberately chose not to bring a sweater or a jacket because she wanted someone to care for her.- not someone but Omfinally both of them are ready to be happy, to leave their past behind not knowing that the past always finds a way outsecrets never stay hiddenReally wondering if Shlok truly is dead ;)Can't wait for the conclusion by another fabulous writer

Khidki, thank you for the update.😊Anni,I am here, have been travelling, hence the late response. But couldn't wait any more... :)Ok, first things first, I really like where you have taken it, but more than that I loved how you have handled it !No problem:)That relieves me :)Trust me I had to read more than one time, to sink completely into the place-LakeTown, the atmosphere and characters you sketched. And then add depth to them. I really love lakes. That's why the prompt came up at the first place😆But you created a town that was known for the lake. And associated the lake so closely to two characters. Brilliance there! You really kept the ambient rendition I had in mind. The analogy and metaphor has been followed ...wonderful.Yes. Tried taking it to another level keeping the essence. What you did with the autumn leaves, the colour, the sound, the detail setting the atmosphere following on from the previous version. That's my weakness. I have to get in nature in everything😛Autumn is one season I have grown to love. The falling leavesAnd then, the master stroke, taking the analogy of their feelings and transcribing it to small actions, like the jacket, again following up from my part.Love Analogies! Very rarely readers spot them though .😳Also, the gist of the story, who is the saviour here and who needs saving?Omkara saved Gauri, but in doing so, he saved himself. He needed a mission and she wanted to be a someone's mission.Indeed!!!!Enjoyed reading it and really looking forward to the conclusion...And so glad I am part of this project.
I really hope that I have not disappointed RingsOfSaturn and Annika (Khidki)
======
Omkara looked at his wife hopping around the kitchen preparing lunch for aguest who he knows nothing about except the name. Liza is someone Gauri befriended in yoga class she joined last month. Just fortnight ago, Gauri was telling him how she hit off well with yoga classmate and now they are hosting dinner for the same friend.
It was as if Gauri left behind the string holding her together with past in the Lake town. London welcomed a new Gauri who shed her inhibitions along with her surname and became Gauri Omkara Singh Oberoi. An optimistic, forthcoming and self assured Gauri was a welcome surprise to Omkara, who found a healer in every smile of hers. Broken pieces of his will began to adhere together with every minute he lived with her as her husband. All the while he was convinced that he was the giver, he was helping her out, but in reality it was she who was building up a new life for him with her nimble hands.
"She must be here. Announced Gauri walking towards the door as the bell rang.
Omkara walked behind his wife curious to find who the friend managed to make friends with his wife in short span. His breath caught in his throat as his eyes met familiar blue eyes. Liza Sebastian. His mind on its own went back to the first time he saw her on voyage. Adorning Captain Shlok's arms, Liza looked much younger then.
Does she know? Omkara shifted his eyes to his wife. On finding her smiling gleefully and being at her hospitable best, Omkara sighed in relief.
"This is my husband Omkara. Introduced Gauri and Liza greeted him with no familiarity. Omkara sighed in relief, happy that he was not recognized.
"This is Liza and little Aden.
For the first time Omkara became aware of the little boy hiding in his face on the crook of his mother's neck. A frown formed on Omkara's face seeing the social butterfly with kid, who had undoubtedly inherited his mother's blue eyes.
As Omkara sat on the lone chair in the living room not interfering with the both ladies fussing over the kid, he was wondering if it was a sign from the universe that his past cannot be hidden forever. Much to his pleasure, his wife bought his I work for my uncle's finance firm' easily and never probed more information. Omkara conveniently hid the times he lived his life travelling around the world as part of ship crew. Now, his past seem to resurface and every second of hiding truth from his wife burdened him.
"Except the eyes he looks completely like Shlok. Gauri said holding the baby close to her chest.
Omkara's head snapped towards his wife with a force that the low crack that caused could have given him sprain. Gauri's eyes turned towards her husband and the knowing look she gave him buried him foot down with guilt and regret.
Gauri followed her husband inside the bedroom after apologising to Liza for his abrupt behaviour. She saw him sitting on the ground with his head buried between his knees.
"Om. She called placing her hand on his shoulder. "Are you... her sentence was left incomplete as she witnessed her husband's eyes that have turned misty.
"So..ooo...ry. he managed to mumble. "I ... I didn't know he was... I am sorry.
"What are you sorry for, Omkara? asked Gauri probing beside him on her heels. "For not saving him or for hiding from me what kind of person he was?
Omkara looked at his wife startled. How much she knows?
Gauri stood up, went towards the desk and returned with an envelope. She placed it in front of him with a straight face.
The letter was clear. Omkara Singh Oberoi was promoted to be Captain of the ship and is expected to join the duty from first month of the following year. The crumbles caused by Omkara the first time he read the letter was still visible on the edges. How did his wife find it?
"I found it three days before we came to London. Said Gauri, as if reading his mind. "When I came to your house to drop my passport.
"Why? asked Omkara looking directly at his wife
Why did she marry him if she knew the truth? Why didn't she confront him for everything that he hid from her? Why didn't she hold him responsible for everything that went wrong in her life? Why didn't she hate him?
"I was shocked, hurt and confused. But, I didn't let my emotion rule my judgement. I met Captain Deepak Hooda.' She said and everything seemed self explanatory with just that word, but he wanted to hear everything from her.
"It was very clich, to fall in love with your childhood best friend. She chuckled humourlessly. "I thought I knew Shlok. We almost grew up together. Every time he went away I only thought that he was going away for work, I didn't know he was going away from me. How foolish was I to not realize that my love was not returned. It was Captain Deepak Hooda who told me about everything, including about Liza. I then met Liza. It was no accident that we both go to same yoga class. Through her I came to know more about Shlok as a person I never knew.
"I am sorry, Gauri. he said taking her hand in his. "I was scared. I didn't have the courage to tell you that everything you believed was a farce.
"No, it wasn't. She said taking her hand off his hold and placing on his cheeks. "My belief was not farce. I believed in you and you turned out just that way.
Omkara was amused at the amount of trust his wife placed on him. Does he even worth it?
"Omkara. She moved closer to him and cupped both his cheeks. "You don't have to hold yourself responsible for what is not your mistake. Shlok was the one who cheated me, he isn't the one who deserved my love, but my Omkara is the one made me live again. He deserves me completely. " she said. "Don't regret not saving him. Rejoice saving you for my sake. Taking the discarded letter, she placed it back in his hand. "Don't run away from your destiny, Omkara. Don't let your fears win. This is what you always wanted, so don't let it go off your hands.
Omkara took the letter and smiled at her. To become Captain Omkara Singh Oberoi has been dream since childhood. The burn of that fateful night demolished all his hope to live his dream, but now, with the love and support of his wife, he think after all not everything is lost.
"Gauri. he uttered with a relief. I love you. For the first time he confessed his feelings for her.
"I know. She replied with a chuckle.
"And??? he prompted wanting to hear from her the same magical words.
"And... she drawled. "I will tell what I feel only to Captain Omkara.
Omkara frowned and twisted his lips dissatisfied at her implication.
"I am not sure...
"Just do it. She encouraged
Closing his eyes, he nodded promising to himself that he will try for his wife's sake.
"I will, Gauri.
"Thank you. She leaned forward and kissed his cheeks. Omkara sneaked his arms around his wife and turned to show his second cheek for another kiss. Gauri placed a kiss there and pulled off his hold. Looking at him content and relaxed warmed her heart like never before. With hope for future filled with happiness, very contently she laughed.
