She jumped out of her bed and closed the balcony door. She wondered about what just happened. He told her not to shout and she listened. Why?đ
She had had enough. She went in to the kitchen, poured herself a cold glass of water and went back to her bed to rest her tired body and mind.
She was unable to sleep even after all the tiredness. She twisted and turned but to no use. The moment she closed her eyes, his sorry face would come before her eyes and his words would echo in her ears. She sat up and began to walk in the room. She thought a breath of fresh air would calm her mind. She parted the curtains and opened her balcony door. The moment she set foot outside, her foot hit something and she fell face down. She opened her tightly shut eyes and to her horror saw him again.
"Stupid mind!" she scolded herself, and tried to get up, but she couldn't as his hands were wound around her petite body holding her close.
"Tum?"đ˛she uttered in shock realising he was for real.
"Sorry...woh..i tried going down the vine I climbed, but it broke and i had to climb backđ.I didn't want to wake you up, thought i'll go back in the morning through the front door, I am really sorry."
"Oh My Godđ˛...Oh My God...Babaji...ab main kya karoon?đ˛" she mumbled to herself still lying on him. He stared at her lips that were muttering to her Babaji and smiled at her cutenessđł.
She is so beautiful, he thought.
She saw him smiling and thought he was making fun of her, and that is when her senses got back and she pushed him away from her and stood upđĄ.
"Ouchđ...gimme your hand"
"NođĄ...you tell me what is wrong with you? First you fight with me, you say you hate me, then you kidnap me, then you say you are sorry. Tum pagal ho kya?" she scolded him folding her hands in front of her.
He tried to get up, but winced in pain, as his back hurt from the beatings he received at the hands of the police. She felt bad and bent down to help him get up. He took her help and got up. He was totally mesmerised by her and just gaped at her.
She saw him staring at her and asked "Kya dekh rahe ho?"
He simply smiled. She became embarrassed and walked in to her room. He followed.
"If you say i'll go. Don't worry."
"No!" she stopped him, not wanting him to get hurt again.
She held his hand and quietly walked down to the front door, opened the bolt, and unlocked the door.
"Now go before my Dad wakes up."
"Okay but say you forgive me."
"Go, please."
"Say you are not angry."
"Okay I forgive you, now please go," she pushed him getting irritated.
She turned a bit to check if her father was still asleep, and Maan pecked her sweetly on her left cheek. She lost all her colour and looked at him in shock.
"Bye Mishti," he whispered into her shocked ears, and rushed out from there. Colour returned heavily on to her cheeks, as she blushed unknowingly. She closed the door, and rushed to her room confused at her wanton heart beating out of control.
...
After that day everything changed between them. He would visit her shop with the excuse of checking books with Adi. Adi was so happy that they were on talking terms. Geet ignored him, but he was hard to ignore and he wouldn't leave a chance to steal glances at her, and his innocent smile stole her heart.
...
One and a half months later...
It was time for him and his family to return back to London, and Geet and Maan were now inseparable. It wasn't some teenage love, they were innocent and had no idea of love. They were friends now and shared a very special bond.
"Geet, one more week and I'll leave with my family for London."
"Hmm," she hummed staring at the setting sun.
Maan thought to hear something else from her, so he spoke further...
"You won't miss me?"
"I will miss you Maan, par tumhe jaana toh padega na. I will always remember the time we spent together, we fought and how we became friends."
"Tum mujhe bhool toh nahi jaogi na?"
"No, never," she smiled placing her head on his shoulder. Maan felt happy and took her hand in his looking ahead at the orange sky.
