"This is all your fault!

"Mine?

"Yes! Of course! If you would not have cheated, you would not have gotten caught in that fight. Then I would not have to come to your rescue! Those guys would not have bothered you. End of story! But nope... That would have been too easy right? Too simple! Of course, you needed to complicate things and get me involved! Because of you, I am in this mess right now!

"Oh hello Madam! You, you, you! It's always about how good you are. Stop blaming me. I am in the same mess, in case you forgot! Did I force you? Did I threaten you or twist your arms? And what do you mean by you came to my rescue?

"Satya, please shut up! It's not like I really had a choice! As if I was going to stand by and watch my husband get beat up, and then proudly take a bruised and battered husband home. Dadi would kill me after screaming Mare Satya' ten times!

Satya and Susheel both had a mental flash of Dadi screaming and chanting his name. He knew she was right. In Dadi's eyes he was a perfect angel and Susheel was sent by the devil.

Both sat in the waiting room of his mom's practice. Of all places, they ended up there. He leaned back his head as he closed his eyes. There was no use arguing with this girl. He knew, she was right. It was all his fault.

The bell rang.. Class was finally over for the day. Susheel was in a hurry to go home. It would be a very busy day for her. She had promised Dadi to cook today since they were expecting guests. Shivam and Soumya would meet each other for the very first time and hopefully, they would be a perfect match. A big responsibility which she didn't want to ruin. This would be a nice chance for her to get into Dadi's good books. Sejal Di would help her of course. As she reached her scooty, she saw her front tyre was punctured.

"Oh no! How did this happen?! There is no time to get to the bottom of this now. I need to go get the groceries, start cooking. I will never finish on time.

She called Sejal Di to explain what happened. She always calmed her down, despite of her somewhat hyper personality. If it weren't for her and Mommy ji, she would have definitely went nuts in that house. Sejal Di would request the groceries to be delivered and start the preparations. When she gets home she could start cooking right away. Life saver!

Susheel noticed Satya's scooter was gone. She called him hoping to get a lift home but without success. She started walking home. Maybe she would be able to catch a rickshaw on her way.

Satya had overheard Susheel's conversation with Dadi. A devilish thought came to mind to sabotage her and without giving it a second thought he took actions. With a smirk on his face he had punctured her tyre.

"I challenge you Susheel.. How will you fulfill your promise now?

He knew she would look for him and so he decided to disappear for a little while. On his way home, he decided to kill some time. Drink a delicious cup of hot tea. Maybe chill with the boys. But Satya got distracted by two street card players. There was something shady about them. He had observed them and discovered they were cheating to make money. Satya thought to give them a taste of their own medicine. Unfortunately, his plan backfired.

Satya had gotten into a fight after he was discovered cheating as well. Somehow, he always ended up in such situations. He had been able to hold his ground for quite a while before he was overpowered by these two guys. Nobody came to help out. In fact, this was nothing new. People loved to watch such spectacles and talk about it but never actually intervene.

Susheel noticed a group of people and noise which made her curious. As she came near the crowd a strange feeling of worry took over.

"Was that Satya's scooter? But what would he do here? No.. I must be mistaking.

Still, she hurried to see what the commotion was all about. She recognized Satya's clothes and the muscled shape of his back, shoulders and neck.

"SATYA!!!

Satya would never admit it, but he was happy to hear her voice! He could not stand the girl but he did admire her courage and spunk. Seeing her, gave him a shot of adrenaline. And they fought back together. As lions. Side by side.

"Susheel! Quick! Follow me!

They ran towards his bike and fled with full speed. Susheel looked back and didn't see these men anymore.

"Satya, slow down a bit. We are not being followed. What happened? Why were they attacking you? Satya! I am asking you to slow down!

He hit the brakes quite suddenly, causing Susheel to hold on to him tightly. Secretly, they both enjoyed this moment.

"Satya! I am serious! Slow down a bit!

Satya stared at her face through his rear-view window.

"What is it about this girl that keeps me fascinated? This big girl, strong as a bear. Fearless like a tigress. Able to stand her ground. Yet right now she seems scared. Vulnerable even.

"SATYA, LOOK OUT!

Suddenly, out of nowhere, he saw a dark flash pass him by. In a reflex, he suddenly stepped on the brakes really hard. But it was too late...!

There was a loud cry of pain. A sound which Susheel could not directly place. They had crashed into something with full force. So much force, that they both were thrown off the bike hurting themselves.

"Susheel?... Susheel?... Are you alright?

"Yeah.. You?

"Yeah.. I am ok..

Again, she heard crying. Softer this time, but repetitive. Panic resounded in her ears.

"Satya... What have we done?

Both got up, ignoring the pain, and rushed towards the poor victim. They had accidentally hit a dog. Susheel instinctively rushed towards the dog to comfort it, forgetting her own fear. The poor animal looked so scared.

"Susheel, it seems like a stray puppy. It's a big dog, but in fact it's still a baby. There is too much blood loss, he is too weak.

"What do you mean? Is there not anything we can do?

"The vet is just too far away. I am sorry, but...

Tears welled up in her eyes. This could not be happening. She had feared dogs all her life, but for sure she was not ready to leave the dog behind to die all alone.

"Satya, I have an idea! Quick! Hold the dog.

Susheel started the bike and signaled Satya to hop on with the dog.
