so bad, if Academy embraces anime, it would get more exposure.. Don't Japanese film-makers send in their nominations though? like we send nomination of Indian cinema..

I only watch the ones that my kid wants to see, so I didn't see [The] Boxtrolls but I saw Big Hero 6 and I saw [How to Train Your] Dragon [2]. We both connected to Big Hero 6 I just found it to be more satisfying. The biggest snub for me was Chris Miller and Phil Lord not getting in for [The] Lego [Movie]. When a movie is that successful and culturally hits all the right chords and does that kind of box-office for that movie not to be in over these two obscure freakin' Chinese f**kin' things that nobody ever freakin' saw [an apparent reference to the Japanese film The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, as well as the Irish film Song of the Sea]? That is my biggest bitch. Most people didn't even know what they were! How does that happen? That, to me, is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

😲

woah... Academy Awards don't seem authentic now.. what is this :(
how did they admit so openly though. How are people chosen to vote in the Oscars? It was so hard to believe that a movie lover wouldn't be genuinely interested in anime movies, but things they say in that article is appalling..

I did some brief googling on 'who votes', and this is an interesting read..

https://mashable.com/2018/03/04/oscars-voting-process-explained/#RQ75yc0S5qqd

^^I think I can somewhat understand why Oscars give no attention to anime for Animated Picture category.. Process is good, but it's the people..

But since the 80s or 90s, anime has had a global reach na.. things should've changed. There are some anime otakus in the west too, it's all surprising!

Yes.

The best picture of 2018 were not even nominated
So watch them before watching nomines , "Bladerunner 2049" and "The florida project ".

The shape of water : since being following Guillmero work from his first film , this is his one of most safe work out there.
If you want to watch best film of his watch " Pan's labyrinth'.
That said it is a still a very well made film with usual weird fairytale elements and is enjoyable.

Get out : it's a a very well done black comedy movie.
I meant the genre black comedy , doesn't deserved to be nominated though. But it is funny alright.

Lady bird : coming of age film , the story is nothing extraordinary but dialogues, acting and screenplay keeps your attention and I think a lot of girls would identify the relationships this movie portray between daughter and mother , school friends , Brothers.

Call me by your name : another coming of age movie , where it deals with a relationship between a young boy and a man.
It's a slow burn movie, and nothing happens on the screen story wise.
You need to have patience and see the story of first love growing in a summer season.
Not for evereyone.

Darkest hour : very by the book movie , pretty bland except gary old man performance , nothing is great about this movie , watch only if you are Gary old and fan or interested in history movie.

The post : another safe by the number movie , watch it on a Sunday afternoon , with talent involved it do great technically but film leaves a lot to be desired.

Dunkirk : a technical masterpiece in my opinion , keeps you edge on your seat even if you know the end with it's bare minimum dialogue.
Avoid it only if you don't like world war movies.

Phantom thread : I have come to love this movie , it's Paul Anderson so obviously it's pretty well made, Daniel day and Vicky kreips gives outstanding performances , but more interestingly how the story unravels is amazing and the themes and layers are quite interesting.

3 billboards : Its good , there is nothing bad in this movie.
But it didn't quite gripped me any way , Sam Rockwell and Woody harlesson kept me interested with their roles
Definitely a watchable movie

I have only watched Blade Runner 2049 and Get Out from the list and both were good.
Have you watched old Blade Runner? How is it?

Blade runner is good.
It's very similar in tone to the new one.
Slow burn movie , which I would suggest only to people who are really into movies.
The problem is to decide which version to view as there are like 5-6 different cuts of the movie.
