The Little Friend
"Good morning students,The teacher walked in and all the students were quiet. "I would like you to introduce you guys to a new student who is joining you guys from today. She comes from an all girls school, so please try to make her comfortable in this co ed atmosphere, She said and all the students nodded. "Come in dear, She called and entered a beautiful young girl. "She is Geet Handa, she will be joining us today, please be friendly with her, The teacher announced and assigned her an empty seat. Geet went in there silently taking her place still nervous in the new atmosphere.
She looked at her side and there sat a boy with glasses who was engrossed in his book, she noticed him and found uniform a little out of place. "How inappropriate, She murmured. The boy looked at her and she got red as a tomato thinking he heard her. She sighed in relief when he looked back in his book.
It was break time for students and a group of girls approached her. "Hi Geet, I'm Pari..nice to meet you. We heard you have joined here from a convent, She asked. "Hello ...umm yes ..., She answered. " So will you be our friend, here take these notes, they will help you, One of the girls said. "Yes Meera has the best notes though shes always the second in class courtesy to Maan, but you can trust her notes, Pari teased. "Hey Pari, not fair, Meera whined. "Thank you Meera, who is Maan, She said. "Umm...you see the guy sitting there, he's the one...the guy is made of ice, he won't even speak to us, Pari said pointing to the same glasses boy. "That one you mean but ..., She was astonished as she remembered she found his dressing as inappropriate. "Geet, your hair are neatly braided and your skirt is longer than us too, here you can loosen up a bit, Pari said."But won't it look a bit inappropriate, She spoke not trying to sound rude. "Geet you are cute, no don't worry look around you all of us are the same here, Meera said. "B..but t..there are b..boys and ..., She stammered. Meera and Pari understood her hesitation so they tried to ease her up. "Geet they are our friends, don't worry, Pari smiled. Geet nodded nervously. She was a naive and a shy girl, they concluded.
"Wow such a cute girl. Hey Geet, will you be my friend, A boy approached her grinning forwarding his hand making Geet to cower back. "You are scaring her Yash, Maan held his best friend dragging him. "Hey, I just wanted to be her friend, He whined. "Let's go, He still dragged him. "Jeez, I was only being friendly that was nothing to be scared of, not like I would have pounced on her or something, He pouted."Try to think from where she stands, this is her first time in a co ed, Maan explained. "Alright...but Pari and the others will make her like the crowd too, He said looking around. "Hmm...well that is not something that we should be worried about. It's their own personal choice.
Well like they said, Pari and the others did manage to change her dressing style but any onlooker could tell that she wasn't comfortable with that. "Huh, look I told you they made her like the crowd but she don't seem comfortable with it, wonder why she has to follow them if she's not comfortable, Yash commented. Maan glanced at her and then looked back into his book uninterested as usual, "Its peer pressure, I guess . And also a person is the same on the inside so the attire shouldn't matter. "Geet why are you not going downstairs come on, She tried to drag her. "Umm..Pari this skirt its too short ...I..I mean ...the guys might..., She looked down embarrassed cursing herself to listen to them. "Oh come on Geet have some confidence look we are all the same no one bothers that much, lets go now, She dragged her. Geet reluctantly followed her.
At the end of the day they were all packing their bags when a classmate of theirs offered them to come to her house as she was going to sell her pets. "Do you guys like puppies, Payal asked them. "Wow they are so cute, The girls gushed looking at the pictures she showed them. "Then come to my house after school, She told. Many of the classmates went to her house and some of them adopted the puppies. Only a brown one remained.
Geet and Maan both looked at the cute pup and tried to hold it at the same time. "Geet right, let me play with it then you can take your turn, Maan said. "No way I saw it first so I will play with it, She argued.
"Ah, then lets have a toss pick one head or tails and the one who wins will get to play with it first, He said. "Alright, heads, She spoke. Well Geet's luck did not work and Maan won the toss.
"Not fair, alright then , I will wait for my turn, She whined. Maan took the little one and he started to play with it, smiling at his tricks."Do you like them, She asked looking at him smiling happily with it.
"Yes, I really love them, He said. The puppy jumped into Geet's lap rolling and barking to get her attention, "Aw, you are so adorable, She said patting its fur. "It seems it is a male puppy he is more attracted to you, Maan said. Payal came to them as she saw them playing with it."Do any of you want it, Payal asked.

"I can't have it, my mom will kick me out of the house if she sees an animal with me, Maan said. "What about you Geet, She asked. "I..I can't ..., She said. "Oh okay then guess I have to sell it online, Payal spoke thoughtfully. "Online ...but then what if it gets a bad owner..., Geet said. "But I have to sell it or my mom will throw a fit.., She told. Geet and Maan looked back at the puppy once and started to leave for home.
